On Geiger, last time I checked, the BABIP wasn't insanely high. Tbh, I'd like to know how the swing looks, since it's still low A pitching.

Going to the games in a couple weeks when they're in Grand Rapids. Planned on taking the camcorder/camera. Will video from the dugout area suit?

That'd be awesome if you could.

Hunter Ackerman is still only 21, 4th round pick based on a promising lefty curveball. He was horribly wild two years back, somewhat wild last year, now after 7 innings he's 8K/0BB. He's got more K's than IP in his brief career, so I assume there is something to the curveball.

Anybody know what his injury was that kept him out for the first several months this season?

Um ... I want to say it was some sort of hip or leg injury. I think AzPhil actually mentioned it once.

On Geiger, with 8 HR in 25 games, that's 8 hits. I don't think his BABIP can be exceptionally when he's got so much HR-based BA.

My understanding is that he hits them as long as Baez does, sometimes. So he's plenty strong.

I'm less buzzed on Alcantara, or Lake, than some of you.

Alcantara seems fun as a toolsy SS. But so many errors. I'm not very confident that a guy who makes so many errors now will ever have the reliability that a big-league SS requires. The same goes for Lake. So do I want to put Alcantara into top-15 as an outfielder? I'm not sure the bat looks that compelling as an outfielder. Lake is OPSing at .743, and barely slugging .400, much of that IsoP having been produced during his first week. Not sure it's that super promising as a RFer, Maybe the system is so weak that guys like that have to fit into top 10, but not super compelling candidates.

I'd definitely put Pierce Johnson ahead of either of them. Maybe that's going too much with ceiling, but until he's injured his outstanding stuff certainly puts him ahead of guys who look more like bench prospects. He's got a chance to be perhaps an excellent rotation starter or else a late-inning guy, perhaps a good closer. I'd prefer that to two SS's who don't seem likely to play big-league SS very often.

Candelario went 3-5 with a double tonight. Taylor Scott went 6, giving up 3 hits, a walk, and struck out 4. No runs. Great outing.

Geiger's HR was a rather high fly ball that barely stayed fair down the left field line, but it cleared by plenty (it left the stadium, but it's only 315 down that line). Balaguert's HR was a line drive much like Baez's.

So what's the deal with this Saunders dude in Arizona? Is a promotion in his near future?

I'm kind of wondering where he's going to wind up playing. He's been at third, second, shortstop, and CF. He was drafted as a SS and was suppose to be pretty solid defensively there. I found an interesting fluff piece on him if anyone wants to read it: http://tinyurl.com/7pf8hxp

AzPhil suggested Saunders could go to Peoria. If that happens, it's because they wanted a utility guy, because I tend to think Bruno should get first call.

I should be clear, if I wasn't - I am intrigued with Alcantara, but I'm not enthused about him either. I'm willing to take a wait and see on the defense, but offensively, I am ... to put it nicely, curious how he deals with tougher pitching in AA. I tend to think he's a possible top 15 more out of default, though.

I'm not huge on PIerce Johnson, but he has some mid-rotation ceiling, and as a polished college arm, I do agree with craig that I think, provided he is healthy, that he should probably get some benefit of the doubt and probably be in our top 10.

As a side note, there was a mildly interesting read on Marco Hernandez. If it was posted in the news section, I apologize.

Nothing earth-shattering, but good to see that he knows what his biggest fault is right now. All the other positives that were said about him have largely shown through in that, the tools are there, but last year, he showed a far more disciplined approach in Arizona, from what I understand (comparatively, he was always a bit aggressive). Now, it could be a case of the absolutely weak/raw pitchers in Arizona making it easy on him.
