Wasn't sure whether or not to start a new thread for this. Seems like things are heating up.

Sources are saying that there could be others involved in Lowrie/Lee-Gould discussions between Dodgers and Astros.

Colleti would actually trade Zach Lee and Garret Gould for Jed Lowrie. Theo/Jed better get on the phone fast because Ned has a super case of the crazies today.

Rosenthal is saying the trade actually involves Lee instead. Which would be even worse than Jed. Though, I guess it would make sense with Ned at the helm.

If Theo and Jed hurry they might be able to trade him Barney and Lahair and Ned will cover lifetime contracts to Garza, Rizzo and Castro to stay on the Cubs along with giving Almora a $10m signing bonus.

New development in #Dodgers trade story: Garrett Gould, who could go to #Astros in deal, was scratched an hour before game time tonight.

Man I wish we could convince them to take Soriano.

It's no secret that the Dodgers are desperte for offense. At this poit, Lee is the better player than Soriano. However, the Dodgers have also expressed strong interest Ryan Dempster. If we can be a one stop shop for them and package Dempster and Soriano and/or LaHair who before that gets pounced on, there were reports earlier this week that they've been scouting, we should be able to get a package built around Gould or Eovoldi. Lee is probably aiming way to high though. Unless we throw in Reed Johnson. I kid.

Soriano is a better player than Lee, imo. But Lee can "play" 1B and also has less $ on his contract so he probably has a little more value, but just from an offensive point, Soriano is better

i was actually having a hard time thinking of anyone on the astros that other teams would be interested in.

Wandy would draw some interest. Lowrie and Altuve would be their two best trade chips, if they decided to use them.

They're really not much different offensively, the paste few years anyway.

2009-2012

Lee: .276/.327/.446/.773 73 HR

Soriano .241/.303/.423/.726 85 HR

Each is dragged down by 1 awful year,

Lee 2010 246/.291/.413/.703

Soriano 2009 .241/.303/.423/.726

And 2011-2012

Soriano.255/.305/.480/.785 41 HR

Lee .279/.342/.436/.778 23 HR

Soriano has certainly shown more power, but Lee has been much better getting on base, making their OPS virtually even. This being said, the money and the fact that he plays 1B make him that much more valuable. It's easy to say that if we're paying 95%-98% of Soriano's salary, it makes him more attractive, but aside from some rumors, we really don't know how much our side is really willing to eat.

The Dodgers won't be able to find a long term solution at 1B without sacrificing other parts of their future. If they're going for the quick fix in a win-now attempt, Lee makes sense for them as a likely low cost solution... but with Colletti at the helm who knows what the Astros might fleece them for.

To me, the guy that makes the most sense for the Dodgers would be Billy Butler. Yeah, they'd have to overpay to get him, but with his contract, it'd allow them flexibility moving forward.

Is Billy Butler capable of playing defense?

According to the Houston Chronicle's Zachary Levine, Astros GM Jeff Luhnow met with Carlos Lee on Saturday to discuss an impending trade with the Dodgers.

An agreement appears to be in place, so it's just a matter of getting his approval. Per FOXSports.com's Ken Rosenthal, prospect right-hander Garrett Gould is expected to be the "primary return" if the deal is completed. Lee would presumably take over for James Loney as the Dodgers' everyday first baseman.

So if the Astros can get a top prospect for Lee and the Blue Jays were not only able to not only get a good player in return for Vernon Wells, but also get out of argueably the worst contract on MLB history, if our guys can't/don't move Soriano for a respectable return, it's their own damn fault.

Source: As of early afternoon today, Carlos Lee continues to tell the Astros he won't waive his no-trade clause.

If Lee blocks the trade, allowing us to swoop in for a similar deal for Soriano, while most Cubs fans will have no idea why, I'll cheer him every time he comes to Wrigley.

Man, I really want Theo/Jed to deal with Colletti.

Wow, they're willing to give up a top pitching prospect for Lee? If Lee declines the trade, which it looks like he's going to, we need to get something done if they're willing to hand out top prospects for aging first basemen. Give them LaHair and throw in some cash if you have to. They're farm is pretty stocked with talent, right? Especially pitchers.

I understand the Dodgers' reasoning this out honestly. Yes, Gould is TOO much value to give up for Carlos Lee. No question. But, there aren't very many sellers right now. Abreu is playing solidly for them in LF, Kemp will be back after the break, Ethier will be back soon, same with Mark Ellis. They're committed to Dee Gordon for the year, AJ Ellis has been ridiculously good, so it leaves 1B and 3B where you can try and upgrade. With most teams not in sell mode yet, it may have very well come down to Lee or LaHair. If I'm the Dodgers, I probably trust Lee more going forward than LaHair, so you try and trade for him first. Plus, I don't care what anyone else says, we have no clue what Theo and Jed may be asking for LaHair right now. Would I take Garrett Gould for LaHair? Hell yes. But, either the Dodgers like Lee more for half a year and paying out 9 mill or so as well, or the Cubs are asking for too much for a guy who's controllable for the following 5 seasons. My guess is the Dodgers think Lee is the better fit, but I'm hoping like hell he turns down the trade, because we may be their fallback option.

The Dodgers are desperate as hell right now, see Gould probably as a guy who never actually gets a shot with them, and see him as movable, because of that. They've got Kershaw, Billingsley, Rubby, and Lee on their future rotation list most likely,(once Lilly, Harang, and Capuano are gone) with a big FA likely. Carlos turning them down could very well net us an excellent pitching prospect or two.

If Loney is going to be available should Theo take a flier on him?

Home: .274/.337/.381/.718 25 HR

Away: .294/.348/.466/.814 44 HR

Vs RHP: .297/.355/.466/.801

Vs LHP: .244/.306/.363/.669

While I do dig the home/road splits, the righty/lefty splits suggest that we've already got one.

This being said, we should be coming at them with Soriano and LaHair. Their outfielders aside from Ethier and Kemp are OPSng in the mid .600s. If you're desperate for offense, Soriano should be very attractive to you, and LaHair should be a worth taking a chance on as a throw in.
