might as well just sign him for whatever it takes, giving him Soler money is not going to put a dent in the Cubs available money.

i'm not going to lose any sleep if we don't get this guy. If the money isn't ridiculous, then sure. But the reports aren't glowing and if he gets 10 mill or more, it's another 40 man slot taken.

Signing one unknown prospect for close to 30 million is enough for me. Don't think it would be a wise use of funds to throw more than 50 million at international prospects. I want to sign the guy if the price is reasonable.

If the Theo regime feels differently about him than the little bit of reports we've seen, I have no problem with them giving him whatever it takes. That said, if the reports we've heard are accurate, then throwing Soler money at him wouldn't put a den tin our available money, but it wouldn't be a smart allocation of funds. Soler got that money because of upside, something this guy doesn't appear to have.

Dodgers just gave him $40 million. Now THAT'S insane.

According to MLB.com's Jesse Sanchez, the Dodgers have agreed to a multi-year contract with Cuban outfielder Yasel Puig worth more than $40 million.

Puig was declared a free agent on Wednesday, and the Dodgers swooped in immediately with an aggressive offer. The 21-year-old stands 6-foot-3 and is known for having exceptional running ability, but he's still pretty raw and will have to work his way up to Los Angeles. The Cubs and White Sox had also expressed serious interest.

Wow, so what are they gonna give Hamels, like 3 or 4 billion?

Apparently.

Seriously, is Puig even going to crack their Top 10?

Badler said he's not in an average organization's top 10.

Yasiel Puig is considered a 5-tool player. #dodgers winning bid of $42M for 7 yrs apparently wasnt even his highest offer.

everybody loves leaving money on the table

well yeah when I posted this, I didn't think anybody would really give him Soler money... and here the Dodgers just blow that away.

This really doesn't make sense.

Someone was wrong: either the pundit comments or the Dodgers. Given that the Dodgers are better $42 million dollars and the pundits were betting the energy it took them to send out a tweet, I'll assume the Dodgers were closer to right.

Someone was wrong, either the pundit comments or the Cubs. Given that the Cubs are betting $136 million and the pundits were betting the energy it took to post a blog entry (is that what they were doing in 2007?), I'll assume the Cubs were closer to right.

Teams sometimes have dumb people running them. The Dodgers have a really dumb guy running them.

There's a difference in orders of magnitude here. If the pundits were saying Puig was a $20 million dollar prospect and he got $42 million, then maybe the Dodgers are just idiots. The Cubs paid a $90 million player $136 million.

The reports on Puig implied he wouldn't be worth a tenth of what he ended up getting. You can't reconcile that with just "well, maybe the Dodgers are dumb."

@keithlaw No. Seems like it's not close. "@jasonsbaseball: @keithlaw was Puig considered a better prospect than Soler?"

A few tweets, one says if you see him on the right day, you can see him becoming Vlad. Another says Dodgers weren't even the highest bidders, but they've never seen him play in a game.

You do realize your logic still boils down to "the Dodgers spent a lot of money, therefore they are most likely correct", right?
