Jaramillo was on double secret probation . Told weeks ago approach of hitters had to change.

Epstein ; Rudy is great hitting coach but we need to emphasize as an organization to get your pitch to hit.

I love the secrecy, especially considering the fact that our last FO didn't even have single-secret probation: everything leaked!

Hendry was fired for like half the season last year and it never got out

Given the FO I don't see this as a scapegoat situation at all so much as a "alright, we've taken the time evaluate how this guy does his job and we've decided we don't want him working with the younger players who will be coming up because he does not fit with the new institutional philosophy"-situation. Or something as similarly intelligent.

Weeding out the old regime one at a time!

Something that I have been clamoring loudly since 2006, probably even before that. Go Theo!

I wish they could get Rothschild back.

Right. Jaramillo might be a little disappointed, but I'm sure he understands that it wouldnt make sense to work in an organization that doesn't have the same hitting philosophy as him.

Kind of funny this is kind of "meh" news considering the decent amount of fan fare he got when coming here. I think he even had a press conference to announce his signing.

Much more from Theo on the move.

‘But you have to make tough decisions when there’s a gap between where you are and where you want to be. And we felt the importance of getting a new message in here outweighed everything else.

Ultimately, it’s about a see-more-pitches team-wide emphasis that’s not necessarily inconsistent with Jaramillo’s teachings, but that wasn’t as much of a focal point as the front office wanted.

Damn right. See more pitches, grind ABs, get starters out early, tear up bullpen arms. It's worked in NY and Boston for over a decade. That's part of the reason they played so many 4 hour games.

Wasnt Rudy a proponent of the 'aggressiveness in the zone' approach to hitting? In otherwords good hitting will naturally produce a high obp. Which seems assbackwards and thats why we saw alot of over aggressiveness by cubs hitters. Easy to say stuff like that when you have josh hamilton, raffy palmiero, ivan rodriguez and a host of other great hitters in a great hitters ball park. Im glad we will finally be stressing patience and pitch selection.

That's the common misperception.

Rudy didn't really emphasize approach at all. When he talked about being "aggressive", he actually was talking about the swing itself. Don't just try to make weak contact and put the ball in play. Take a good rip at it and try to do some damage to the ball is the type of "aggressiveness" he preached.

No use criticizing Jaramillo or his methods. The bottom line is that all hitting (or pitching) coaches help certain hitters (or pitchers) and doesn't help others. The best coaches affect a higher percentage, but it's certainly not anywhere near 100%. Rudy has had success for a long time and a record he should be proud of.

HENDRY WOULDN'T HAVE DONE THAT

Another expected brilliant reponse. For someone who hates Hendry, all of your responses seem to include his name.

Enough. B2B didn't say anything about hendry in his post and ssr blasted him anyway. Stop the nonsense.
