I was actually wondering about Jaramillo about a month ago. He was a holdover to begin with, and with the wholesale underachievement of the offense, he seemed like a likely(if not justified) scapegoat. Never did have his reclamation project or two like he did in Texas.

I remember hearing somewhere that he had done a lot of work with Soriano this year and supposedly his great play in May was a result of it.

If his work with any specific hitter is feeding into this, I'd guess they don't like the regression in Castro's approach.

i was about to say the same exact thing. castro hasn't really developed at all and now seems to be regressing.

There was a basic philosophical split between Jaramillo and new Cubs' regime; they don't believe in same things. This change was inevitable.

@CodyWorsham Jaramillo believes in attacking pitches you like. New regime believes in cornering P with the count and getting a good pitch.

I think that's due to the lighter bat. I'm sure Soriano believes it was Rudy, though.

note to selves: don't hire hitting coaches from the rangers or rockies anymore.

Gerald Perry, Von Joshua and now Rudy.....

Killing careers one hitting coach at a time!

Sveum used to be a hitting coach, too. So maybe he and Jaramillo were going at it over differeing philosophies and it was Theo's/Jed's/Rickett's way of throwing him a bone for what certainly hasn't been a fun season for him so far and removing one headache he had to deal with daily.

Weeding out the old regime one at a time!

Something that I have been clamoring loudly since 2006, probably even before that. Go Theo!

@BruceMiles2112

Theo cites philosophy in Jaramillo firing but says #Cubs won't go cookie cutter with hitters

what?

My interpretation is preemptive response to people talking about players not being robots or programmable computers.

I thought it meant that the Cubs want more patience preached, but that doesn't mean they're only going to acquire Youkilis types.

I wonder if the timing isn't related to some sort of overall seachange/shakeup the next two weeks. Draft -> Soler signing -> old guard coaching staff changes -> Rizzo call up -> Dempster trade all before the All Star break?

They've been quoted on multiple occasions recently that transactions will start to take place after the draft was completed.
