Anthony Prieto. Anybody know anything?

5'11'' guy, new to pitching, reportedly hit 97 says Callis.

If true, an 18 year old LHP with that kind of velocity is a nice gamble in round 5

I really hope Boras/Appel really are difficult with negotiating with the Pirates and it turns into a big mess for MLB and they go back and reconsider their draft rules. Pipe dream, I know.

He's being advised poorly.

lmao. Sucks to be Pittsburgh. They lose his slot amount if he doesnt sign right? That's really rough.

Pirates drafted him... Not Houston.

I know I just changed it. Had Astros on the brain from the post I was quoting.

Except that they can't sign him, as they didn't draft him. I have to think that the Pirates are going all out this year, and plan to take the penalties and punt next year.

Or they're gonna offer something and Appel decline it and they get 2 picks next year (most likely both top 10 as well) with a huge budget to spend.

Or get the #9 pick in a probable stronger draft next year. So not a big gamble. I keep going back and forth hating the guy for being snotty and greedy and feeling sorry for him because he's the first casualty of the stupid new CBA.

Guys left that would be fun for us to take: Stephen Johnson- bigtime power reliever, Derick Velasquez- very projectable JUCO guy that already knows how to pitch, Kyle Hansen- solid pitcher that I have no clue as to why he's still there, Mitchell Traver- just had shoulder surgery, will miss 3 months but is is big and has velo, Josh Elander- solid backstop, surprised he's still there, Buck Farmer- control issues, great name, power guy, Alex Young- best lefty out there, wish UK was here to attest to his signability, Clate Schmidt- power pitcher who's signability must also be in question, Cody Poteet, smallish 4 pitch guy, very crafty, signability issues is my only guess as to why he's out there too.

Obviously, Virant has to be way outpriced or he would have been gone long ago. Same with Buehler and Avis.

Yeah, I bet this is their thinking. Either Appel takes around slot, or they have two top 10 picks next year in a much better draft. If they dont' sign him, do they get the slot money for next year (meaning they would have slot money for their future top 5 pick, their future #9 pick and their lost pick from this year)?
