vitters home run off jeremy jeffress on a 3-1 pitch

Screw it, I'm in. This kid is exciting.

Again, he's Soriano Light. He'll go on a tear for a week or so and then go 3-22 the next week. The fact that he's taking walks is encouraging though.

While we're on the subject, since we're paying the Dave Duncan of hitting coaches, does he ever spend time with the farm team? If not, wouldn't he be more valueable working with our prospects rather than the likes of Jeff Baker, Reed Johnson, as Joe Mather?

Still room on my Vitters bandwagon. Happy to have some joining me, though. It's been lonely!

He's still been my avatar ever since we drafted him....

The Jay Jackson signature though...that's just laziness.

James Pugliese pitched very well again: http://www.thecubreporter.com/2012/06/01/diamondbacks-cubs-split-man

Yesterday, they played an intrasquad game and Jose Arias and Amaury Paulino were fantastic/ http://www.thecubreporter.com/2012/06/01/diamondbacks-cubs-split-man#comment-204184

It was Paulino's first in-game action down in extended spring training this year after he was only allowed to throw sim games due to massive control problems.

Speaking of Vitters, I also noticed he's only committed six errors in 51 games. How encouraged should we be about his defensive improvements at 3B? There were points last year where I had resigned myself to thinking he would wind up at 1B or LF.

Someone recently Tweeted Goldstein in regards to Vitters improvement on defense, and Goldstein, never one to pull his punches referrered to him as serviceable.

please just bring up the big 3 as soon as we won't lose a year of team control and let them play. i'm sick of watching retreads.

Is Vitters part of a "Big 3"? Hmmm

According to BR, Vitters has his career best fielding % and his best Range Factor since his first year in Boise. FWIW.

If Vitters gets a full year in Iowa without getting hurt, we'll be in uncharted waters in regards to his development given that he hasn't had an uninterrupted year at any level. I'm very curious to see what the last 2/3 of the year bring for him and whether this can be his best year as a pro.

former top 5 pick that is still very young and hitting for power at AAA. yeah, i'd put him there.

It's probably just the excitement of a hot streak talking, but the dropoff from Rizzo to Jackson seems bigger to me than Jackson to Vitters.

I'll disagree on that one, but I'm a big fan of Brett. I honestly think he's a 3 to 4 WAR guy for us. I'm still not going to be even remotely sold on Vitters until he keeps this up for a full season, instead of a month long Soriano-like streak.

Yeah, that seems pretty far out there to me. Despite his recent slump and Vitters' hot streak, Jackson still has better numbers at a more premium position.

Jackson is also a year older and is repeating the level.

As Tim said, he's also had more time at the level and is a year older. And 3b is a premium position too (and currently one that has a lower OPS in the NL than CF).
