The word filter needs to take any form of punctuation that is repeated more than once and replace the entire post with "I'm a stupid moron with an ugly face and big butt and my butt smells and I like to kiss my own butt."

ok. If anyone repeats more than one ellipsis, then that'll happen. I haven't seen it yet, though.

Soriano's fWAR went from 1.4 to 1.7 after the 2 homer night. Was wondering how much a hitter could gain in a game like that.

Nobody is going to over react to the hot streak, but if they could see him as what he is, a guy who his lefties well and is still capable of hitting at least 20 HR. They could very well give up 2-3 low level guys.

It depends on what you mean by overreacting. I'm under no delusion that we'll get significant value for Soriano, but it is possible that somebody like Colletti might bump up their offer a bit (or even get interested period) in Soriano because of this 1.000 OPS since the start of May.

To me, giving up 2-3 low level guys (i.e. "lottery tickets") and paying any salary at all would be overreacting.

I think that we could get an expired prospect ala Ian Stewart as well as a lottery ticket, depending on who and how much they want him. Also depending on their needs we can toss in Johnson, Baker, or Camp.

I'd almost bet that teams are starting to have internal discussions about him, but theres no need for them to show their hand as it's no secret that we're looking to move him and eat a ton of salary to do so.

That's just one long one. A repeat would have a space in the middle. ;)

So this happened with Soriano...

http://www.bleachernation.com/2012/09/24/alfonso-soriano-received-outfield-coaching-for-the-first-time-this-season/

Dave McKay must be a genius! Well, maybe. But it turns out he’s also simply the first coach to actually work with Soriano on outfield defense. From Sahadev Sharma:

His improvements defensively have also contributed in making this one of Soriano’s better all-around seasons with the Cubs. Soriano admitted that this year was the first time he’s ever gotten instruction on how to play the outfield. First base coach Dave McKay routinely coaches all the outfielders on how to play defense.

That revelation is all the more surprising considering that Soriano moved from second base to left field in spring training of 2006, his only season with the Washington Nationals. Soriano said that the only ‘coaching’ he got at that time and prior to this season was shagging fly balls during batting practice.

Holy. Crap.

Maybe what he said was misinterpreted, but judging from his quotes it sounds like no one ever gave him pointers on how to field his position properly ever until this season. Probably helps that he also has a manager who is smart enough to employ strategic defensive positioning

This is about as consistent of a season as you can expect from Soriano. Seems like he's been hovering around an .820 OPS for months now.

I feel like the rays screwed the pooch by not adding him. They needed a right handed power bat and we were trying to give him away.
