Well, this was embarrassing. This ensures that the Cubs will lose this season series against the Sox.

Were does this team stack up among some of the Cubs worse offensive units in the last 20 years?

 

LaHair is the only power source for this team and he and Castro are the main offensive guys. The problem is Castro doesn't hit for power and won't take walks.

 

Soriano stinks, the catching situation is a mess, and Stewart is a bust so far.

This is argueably the most important series of the year. It's about fan pride, and in a season in which the best case scenerio is getting decent trade return in July, that means more than the standings. The Cardinals may by more our natural rival than the Sox, but while you might run into the occasional Cards fan here and there you run into Sox fans almost daily. I expect better in the next round, and then I don't care what these guys do the rest of the season.

why is this important? and to whom..the fanbase? it's certainly not any more important to the players or organization. The Sox are bad, we are just worse.They have 4-5 major league hitters we have 2-3. They have 2 solid starters and a young possible good starter, we have about the same. they have a young up and coming bullpen that is unproven but has lot's of promise, we have a young bullpen that has very little promise.

I fear that dempster is becoming dempster, which is a solid but not great starter and that Maholm may really, really struggle as the weather warms up and wind blows out. He did not pitch horrid, but the sox O is bad, and with our lack of offense 4 runs is almost insurmountable on most days.

It is becoming a very long, long season. It's hard to simply watch the possible future players and hope they develop. I am praying that Samardjiza is for real, and that wood comes through, because there is little else for pitching anywhere close.

Also hoping that LaHair remains a major league hitter, and can add in with castro. Then we wait for rizzo.

They are 13th in OPS and 14th in runs scored. They were one notch worse in each stat in 2006.

BTW the Cubs are now 3-9-4 in season series against the White Sox since interleague play started.
