Sullivan reporting it's official.

But he'll be available for today's game, and retire after. That's odd.

The symbolic end to Wood's career came last week at Wrigley Field when he tosses his glove and cap into the stands after a poor outing against Atlanta, snapping and walking away when a question was asked afterwards.

Eff you Paul Sullivan.

I second that. Sullivan is completely classless prick.

Why? I hate Sullivan but Wood was a complete prick in his response to that question.

This is the kwood love thread. He's the most beloved cub of this generation. We will not be calling him a prick in this thread.

And how is that a "symbolic end to his career" and what does that have to do with the fact that a fan favorite player is retiring? It doesn't....except that Sullivan was butthurt that Wood was a meanie-head.

One of my favorite Cubs of all time. I have no doubt he's going to play some role in this organization, however minor it may be, for years to come.

He graciously autographed a couple of baseballs before this season started and we talked for a few minutes about baseball. We didn't talk about the Cubs--we talked about our own sons' involvement in the game. A great personal memory for me.

Throwing in the towel, hanging up your hat... he left the field and threw his equipment in the stands the game before announcing his retirement. I'd say that's pretty symbolic.

It wasn't the game before announcing his retirement. He's pitched in 3 games since then. It's a random event that Sullivan is trying to attach to this.

How? Why is that being a prick? That's just stupid. Why isn't he allowed to be pissed about the situation?

Wow! I've wanted Wood to call it a career all season but now that he has, it all seems just sad. Kerry is a pretty good embodiment of the Cubs organization and culture--when it's good (20k game, domination, 2003 playoffs), it's awesome and when it's bad, it's as bad as it gets (injuries, losing, heartbreak, etc.).

I hope that somehow, some way, the Cubs are leading after the 8th today vs. the Sox and Sveum lets Kerry try and get the save and he Ks all 3 guys he faces. That would be so awesome.

Top 5 Wood memories for me, personally

1. Game 5 2003 NLDS (with me in attendance)

2. Game 1 2003 NLDS (basically singlehandedly winning that game)

3. 20K game

4. Game 7 home run

5. some random game against the Cardinals where he struck out Fernando Vina on a slider that hit him
