Paul Giamatti is the son of Bart Giamatti, who was the commissioner who banned Pete Rose. Never made the connection until now.

Holy crap

also, bart giamatti will always be my favorite commish because he had a baseball card

So...if they'd given Selig a baseball card would you have liked him more?

Matt Cain iffy for his Friday start with right forearm tightness. He had an MRI today.

YCPB @cantpredictball

From 01-04, Bonds had 367 PAs with a base open. He walked 244 times, 205 intentionally. .364/.785/.851.

Perhaps our favorite—Bonds’ 1.422 OPS in 2004 is higher than what going 2-5 with a single and homer every day would get you.

Diamondbacks manager Chip Hale said Wednesday that Yasmany Tomas "needs to get in better shape."

It's been a rocky marriage so far between the Diamondbacks and Tomas, who's currently working on his defense at Triple-A Reno. Tomas was signed to a six-year, $68.5 million contract last November, but he showed up to camp with a huskier build than the D'Backs would have liked and failed to show defensive promise at third base. "I think fitness-wise, he needs to get in better shape," Hale said. "He knows that. He worked really hard all spring. It's not just working hard, it's how you eat and learning a new country and all these things. I mean, it hasn't been easy for him."

So that sounds like it's going well.

Frank Isola @FisolaNYDN

We are seconds away from the most overhyped 12-10 pitcher in history to make his season debut for the Mets.

I wonder if a team has ever sent less than 27 batters to the plate in a game that was not shortened due to rain or anything else. In other words, has a home team ever won a game using only 25 or 26 batters?

My guess would be definitely. Im sure a home team has been 1 hit before but manufactured that hit into a run or it was a HR and won the game 1 -0.

It's happened a handful of times. Most notably this game.

Wow. Didn't expect to actually find one. Thanks

There's a book about Sandy Koufax, written by Jane Leavy. Every other chapter is an inning of his no hitter against the Cubs. Some good comments from Santo, Hundley and others from that team about how well Koufax was pitching that night. It's a great read.
