what is possible, though, is that a team had both an executive and a manager interviewed, and neither one picked trout. i'm looking at you, phillies.

the phillies aren't cactus league

what is possible (albeit unlikely) is that all three were from the angels.

Maybe 3 executives honestly believe a player like Stanton will age better than Trout? Its not the craziest idea out there.

Not wanting a 23 year old with 29.5 career WAR under his belt when you have 3 choices of anybody in baseball is basically the craziest idea, especially when it's coming from people allegedly competent enough to hold positions where they are making decisions on such things.

But maybe it was 3 Angels guys (you weren't allowed to choose from your own roster)...at the very least, I feel like it's almost gotta be 2 Angels guys and one dummy.

“I don’t do that MLB Network on-base percentage (stuff),’’ Brandon Phillips told USA TODAY Sports. “I think that’s messing up baseball. I think people now are just worried about getting paid, and worrying about on-base percentage, instead of just winning the game.

“That’s the new thing now. I feel like all of these stats and all of these geeks upstairs, they’re messing up baseball, they’re just changing the game. It’s all about on-base percentage. If you don’t get on base, then you suck. That’s basically what they’re saying. People don’t care about RBI or scoring runs, it’s all about getting on base.

“Why we changing the game after all of this time? If we all just took our walks, nobody would be scoring runs. Nobody would be driving anybody in or getting anybody over. How you doing to play the game like that. People don’t look at doing the things the right way, and doing things to help your team win.

“I remember back in the day you hit .230, you suck. Nowadays, you hit .230, with a .400 on-base percentage, you’re one of the best players in the game. That’s amazing. I’ve never seen (stuff) like that. Times have changed. It’s totally different now.

Lots of the usual herpa-derp in those quotes, but this one stuck out to me as being amazing. That's just...beautiful.

My favorite is that it appears that MLB Network now invented OBP, rather than Billy Beane in his book.

a lot of that is (sort of) phony. They let their models work out right before the photoshoots so they're beefier than usual

Can someone explain to me what I'm missing on the Red Sox? It seems like most of the projection systems and and prognosticators are really high on this team and I just don't get it. Is this just the boring East Coast/Red Sox bias? They have a good but far from spectacular rotation with no depth, "headlined" by a guy who won't throw 200 IP and currently depending on Justin Masterson to work out as a fifth starter. Napoli, HanRam and Victorino (and probably Buchholz) are injury risks and Pedroia is on the wrong side of 30 and declining the last few years. Seriously what am I missing?

They're going to score roughly a billion runs and the AL East sucks right now.

They have one of the best rosters from spots 15-35 that I've ever seen. I think the lack of quality in spots 1-10 are gonna keep them from running away with the division or having the best record in the AL, but I think they're a pretty good consensus pick for the best team in that division.

their bench probably features a better OF than some teams have, so injury concerns aren't really a big deal

they also have impact players like Owens, Rodriguez, Swihart, Moncada they can bring up if need be (or trade for an top-tier starter)

the cardinals are the team that I don't get as far as seemingly consensus division champ teams go...other than they manage to do it every year with a bunch of random dudes, which i understand.

they just don't look like that overwhelming favorite type of team to me.

If they stay healthy, I think they're the best team. However, between Wainwright and Wacha's health, the age of Peralta, Molina and Holliday, and the uncertainty of Heyward, there's a pretty significant downside to their potential.

They're more 'very high floor' than 'very high ceiling', so projection systems are going to be heavy on them. They project for like 1, maybe 2 spots to not reach 2 WAR between their rotation and lineup, so it's not for no reason. They have similar problems on the high end with Holliday's decline, and Molina + Wainwright/Wacha's injury troubles, but Heyward helps mitigate that a bit.

I think the video was in the playoffs thread, but the guy apparently got shot in a robbery attempt he walked in on.

Jimmy is a wonderful guy who works with at-risk youth. He was shot in his home recently when he walked in during an attempted robbery.

Surely everybody remembers @jimmyfaseler, the Royals fan with the wonderful belly and the killer dance moves.
