The recent analyses of pitch-framing by catchers adds an interesting spin on the idea of robo-umps calling balls and strikes...

If the skill of the catcher is a significant factor in whether pitches are called balls or strikes and whether the batter subsequently swings at borderline pitches, is that something we want to take away?

As soon as we don't have some of the best framers in the league and Kyle Schwarber is ready.

Your mileage may vary, but to me the answer to that question is unequivocally yes.

I'm kind of with him on Lester. I think some meatballs are going to be slightly disappointed when he doesn't duplicate last year and they realize he isn't a super duper "ace" like i've seen a few randos make him out to be. That said, I also could totally see him duplicate last year by moving to the NL and working with Bosio so who knows.

yeah i think the NL bump is being overlooked.

Yeah, my hope is that the NL + Bosio is enough to stave off age-related decline for a year, everything about the deal looks better if he's declining from 2016 on.

the reds might win 90 games if they play this season twice

All they need is for everyone to stay healthy, have career years, and get a couple of nice surprises from their rookies.

So if my counting is right, he thinks 6 NL teams are better than the cubs...Nats, Dodgers, Cards, Pirates, Giants. ..and Mets?!

The Mets are sneaky decent and getting Matt Harvey back.

And playing in the worst division in baseball.

Maybe NL West. Close call.

Both have elite top teams, but I'd take the Padres over the Mets and the Giants over the Marlins. The Philles, D-Backs, and Rockies all suck.

I'd think if you thought a team was capable of winning 90 games, you'd rank them higher than 24th on your list.
