The Oakland A's are now 2-13 in their last 15 games. They're basically in a dead heat now with the Mariners and Royals for the wild cards. Their first order win % has them outperforming the Royals by almost 15 wins. Poor Billy B.

BFIB: "Adam Wainwright for Cy Young."

I actually had a BFIB tell me something along the lines of "Those are just meaningless stats. Theo has you guys brainwashed. WATCH the games, that's where you see proof that Wainwright is the better pitcher."

I'M the one that's brainwashed!?

Did you ask him how many Clayton Kershaw innings he has seen this season?

If they lose tonight, they will be behind Seattle and KC. Addison Russell may be haunting Beane for years.

Hector Santiago threw 82 pitches in two innings today, giving up five walks, three hits (including a double and a HR) and only allowed three runs.

That's somewhat astonishing.

It is really hard to take a side between Papelbon and West since they are both pretty much wastes of good air.

What did West think he was accomplishing by ejecting him other than to draw attention to himself. Not like Papelbon was coming back in the game anyway. West continuing to be allowed to umpire with his long history of asshat behavior combined with consistently terrible calls is an embarrassment to the sport.

I also don't like Papelbon but he couldn't have made the gesture to more deserving fans.

Was he also the guy that threw Mongo out? I'm blanking on the name.

I thought that was Angel Hernandez.

That incident was vintage West. Reading the description I was expecting Papelbon's gesture to be far worse than it was. Pretty much everything West did in that sequence was not okay.

Do the player/ump NO TOUCHING rules cut both ways? If so, West should get a huge fine and possibly a suspension. That was very aggressive, and totally bizarre behavior from an umpire, IMO

They don't cut both ways. The ump has a lot more leeway to initiate trouble without consequence. They can be disciplined, but I don't think MLB cares enough to risk bothering their union and deal with the consequences. Plus, their most devoted audience are rules obsessed respect authority types that don't want to see the lowly athletes get away with talking back.

I saw him gesture to the fans … and that's not good. That's what I saw, and so did the plate umpire. You can't do things like that. I told him, 'You've got to go.' And then he charged out of the dugout and his head bumped into my hat. And I grabbed him and I said, 'Get off of me.'

The fans come and pay their money and want to see a good game. They have the right to boo and do whatever they want to do but an umpire gets caught up in that and starts trying to look for extra things he may think are going on. Just umpire the game and I don't think we would have been in this situation.

Joe had no right to grab me by any means so I will file a complaint for that for sure.

Pedro had a 1.74 ERA in 2000. The second best ERA in the AL that year was Roger Clemens at 3.70.

Looks kind of like IMB when he got clocked.

Shark has not allowed a run in five starts this season. His teams (three times with us, twice with Oakland) have scored a total of four runs in those games and have lost all five times.

Phil Hughes has struck out 176 batters this year while walking only 16 this year, which is tied with Bret Saberhagen for the best K:BB ratio in baseball history. Only three other players have ever had a K:BB greater than 10 and only six over 9.

Really wanted us to sign Hughes this past offseason. Hammel helped get us a great return, but having Hughes would have been awesome.
