I seriously hate replay so much

It has it's issues, but I like getting the calls right.

if only they always did

they get more right than they used to, which is a step in the right direction.

i saw tons of flaws in the implementation before they even started it, though.

that is to be expected when you introduce a system that basically serves to correct the mistakes of men who refuse to believe they could make mistakes.

And it's still the first year. As I recall, there was a lot of hate for the NFL replay system at first, and while it still has some haters, it's generally pretty well received now I'd say.

It is well received now, but I also believe that NFL refs are fine with saying they were wrong on these challenges/replays because at that time, they might've not had the best view of the play and "WANT" to make the right call. MLB umps are a different story. I've seen some replays this year where it was definitely a no-brainer to overturn the call and they didn't. I don't care if it was really close and it basically comes down to judgement call. NFL still has those calls as well, but it seems like they get the no-brainers call 100% right now. Hopefully MLB will get to that point, but I have a hard time seeing some of these MLB umps overturning their own calls and losing some of the power/spotlight on the game they have right now.

They aren't overturning their own calls, they are being overturned by fellow umps sitting in NYC.

Man, Masterson has been awful since he went to the Cards. As a side note, while he was getting shelled today, Jerome Williams went 8IP with 1ER.

With a 5.88 ERA and a 4.26 FIP (3.86 career), you have to wonder if Masterson is turning himself into a Chris Bosio Reclamation Discount Special.

...and am I the only one irrationally enraged by the Cardinals' winning record with a negative run differential? This totally means they're going to win the World Series, right?

...and Jerome Williams? THE Jerome Williams? It's amazing to remember how young he was when he was with the Cubs. He had a relatively decent year on an awful team after picking him up while jettisoning LaTroy Hawkins. Then... dude just dropped off the map. Pitched 46 MLB innings over the next 5 years. And then all of a sudden, he's back in the Bigs and pitching as a replacement level guy. I don't know what happened, if he got hurt or just was lost in the shuffle or whatever. But I really want it to be some sort of Moe Berg-esque spy drama. Like maybe he had to go undercover to bust a drug cartel or something.

One of the main problems is that they never seem to have enough camera angles in baseball. There are way too many inconclusive calls that default to the umpire. The other bigger problem is that they don't use a reliable system for calling balls and strikes. It's ridiculous in this day and age.

The very first time I saw it used in the AFL they got the call wrong on the review.

I swear we discussed this concept recently

Meet “Compromise WAR”. RT @fangraphs: InstaGraphs: 50/50 WAR for Pitchers Added to WAR Leaderboard http://bit.ly/1p8BoxU

yeah, i'm not sure what purpose it serves

WAR is meant to be a descriptive stat; FIP-based WAR: how well a pitcher performed if you assume BABIP and LOB% are outside his control...RA9-WAR: how well a pitcher performed based on actual in-game results

this doesn't really describe anything, though

This gets asked time and again, but what would it take to get Montero and would it be worth it? He was very well thought of before the trade to the Mariners.

Not much. But he's a DH or 1B. We've got no where to give him AB's. He can't catch anymore and he's a schmuck. Not worth anything to us.
