i'm enjoying the blind loyalty that casto's spray chart has for dempster in this thread.

sounds to me like dempster was all geared up for la, then had his feelingd hurt when the atlanta news broke. now he's pouting and stomping his feet to try and regain some power. i bet this still happens. if not, [expletive] ryan dempster. thanks for the 7 walks and all the cringe worthy impressions.

You mock him for "blind loyalty", then turn around and speculate something completely unfounded in order to legitimize your feelings of angst about a situation you have close to no information on.

...wow, that sentence just kept going and going.

You want me on that wall. You need me on that wall!

it's pretty obvious that he had indicated he'd go to atlanta. how long ago was it that all those quotes came out about theo and dempster keeping in contact and having discussed where he'd be willing to go? the pictures of them in the empty stands, etc.

so knowing that, do you think it's reasonable to think that the cubs front office spent time negotiating with atlanta and COMING TO A TRADE AGREEMENT without being under the impression that he'd accept a deal there?

it's common sense. we know theo and dempster have kept in contact and have been on the same page. they wouldn't have come to an agreement with atlanta if they thought dempster was unwilling to go there.

You don't even know why the trade hasn't gone through. Think about that for a second. Yes, Dempster has not given his approval yet, but you have no idea why. You're just guessing and calling him a cry baby to appease this misguided sense of entitlement you have.

we know exactly why the trade hasn't gone through. there were literally quotes from wren saying that they agreed on the trade and they're just waiting on dempster. it sounds like you don't want to accept that ryan dempster might be doing something kinda shitty here.

After seeing Delgado as a return, Webster is underwhelming. Before Delgado, I would have thought it was solid. Get Gould as a 2nd piece and I really like it though.

After 33 starts in AA at age 21/22 Webster has a 4.56 ERA and 1.486 WHIP. Stats are underwhelming. But I don't know what the scouts think of him.

3. Allen Webster, RHP

DOB: 2/10/90

Height/Weight: 6'3/185

Bats/Throws: R/R

Drafted/Signed: Eighteenth round, 2008, McMichael HS (NC)

2011 Stats: 2.33 ERA (54.0-46-21-62) at High A (9 G), 5.04 ERA (91.0-101-36-73) at AA (18 G)

Tools Profile: Big fastball but other pitches need work.

Year in Review: The young right-hander dominated in the California League but learned some tough lessons in his first exposure at the upper levels.

The Good: Webster's fastball is a special pitch, as it's a natural sinker with low-to-mid 90s velocity and plenty of sink. He has a plus changeup that he'll throw at any point in the count and a simple delivery that is easily repeatable, leading to plenty of strikes.

The Bad: Webster has struggled to find a reliable breaking ball, and the lack of a vertical aspect to his game led to him getting hit hard in the Southern League. He has a distinct curve and a slider, but both are inconsistent, and he has a tendency to overthrow them.

Ephemera: Only four players selected with the 547th overall pick have reached the big leagues, with former Cubs GM Ed Lynch being the only one to play more than 50 games in the majors.

Perfect World Projection: Number-three starter

Fantasy Impact: He could be a solid contributor across the board.

Path to the Big Leagues: Webster's Double-A stint proved that he still need development time, and he'll return to the level in 2012

ETA: 2013

Peripheral stats look pretty good, though: 21 K%, 9 BB%, .355 BABIP, 2.99 FIP, lots of ground balls.

I just told you, he hasn't given his approval. I literally just said it in the quote you took. You have no idea why though. You're jumping to the conclusion that he's throwing a tantrum instead of a dozen other possibilities.

Also, there's no denial on my behalf. I'm just going to act like a sane person and wait for the actual news to come out before reacting to it.

Also he made a list of teams he would like to be traded to and the Braves were #2.

oh i must have missed the part where there was a press conference and he held up a list of teams and the braves were #2 on the list. apparently that was common knowledge and not third-hand whispers down the lane.

most people believe that the dodgers are #1, so i'm having a hard time understanding why the braves - nowhere close to los angeles geographically - would be #2. i've seen reports that he'd like to be on the west coast because of family, so maybe the braves were on the list of teams he'd consider but ultimately decided not to play for them.

Whoever we get for Dempster that isn't Delgado, I'm going to boo forever as a proxy for Dempster and how he showed all the worst of professional athletes.

Better yet, announce a deal with the Dodgers, and when he's all psyched and ready to go, pull the plug on it at the last minute. That outta learn him.

You can't see why he would want to play for a playoff contender? Really?

why are you choosing to believe the dodgers rumors but not the atlanta ones?

Here's my problem with Dempster. You're not coming back to Chicago next year. You're going to be paid millions for the rest of the year to go pitch in Atlanta IN A PLAYOFF CHASE for 3 months. After that you can go to LA and sign there. You can even keep your family in Chicago for now while you pitch in Atlanta for 3 months. You're a baseball player, you're on the road all the time anyways. The Atlanta trade benefits everyone involved. Now if there's a problem with his daughter that he needs to be in Chicago or LA for then I understand this but say it.

Dodgers moved Webster to the pen a while ago, as he was really struggling, for 5 appearances. Since then, in 9 starts(two starts ago, he only went 1 inning. Rain?) But he's pitched 47 innings, given up 39 hits, 16 runs, 11 earned, 17 walks and 46 K's. So he's definitely been pitching more like the top 100 prospect he was heading into the year.

Totally reasonable.
