  1. I seem to remember Fred McGriff doing something similar 10 years ago. Let's get this over with already!
  2. ...look into trading Soriano to the White Sox for Dunn? The contracts look to expire the same year but the Cubs would save a total of $16 million off Soriano's contract. Dunn is 3 years younger than Soriano though that may not be as much a factor given all that has been said regarding Dunn's condiditoning. Sox might take on Soriano as they are better positioned to win now.
  3. I was a server at his old chicken restaurant in Shaumburg around '96. I was working one night and had a chance to meet him when he came in for dinner with his wife. He took the time to meet any of us who wanted to shake their hands. Very nice family.
  4. I saw in the trib where Quade is looking at former Cub Gary Varsho to possibly fill a coaching position. FWIW
  5. I was just wondering who y'all think is a better pitcher at this point in their careers assuming health...Sheets or Harden? If the Cubs were to add a healthy Sheets would they ultimatly be better of than if they had kept a healthy Harden?
  6. Pure fantasy baseball here but how about Cabrera AND Granderson? Soriano could move back to 2nd base. :)
  7. FWIW, I heard on one of the sports talk stations here in Chicago that Wells will make his next start then be shut down.
  8. Is this whole thing with Bradley worse than the Todd Hundley and Dave Kingman situations? Will Bradley eventually be crowned "most reviled" Cub?
  9. It is too bad that Mark's career has taken a turn for the worse. I was also one who hoped there would be a 10+ year era of dominance from him in a Cubs uniform. All that said, I don't feel sorry for him. He got to play in the major leagues and like has been said, he has a degree from a very good school. I wish him the best...but he will be just fine. BTW I was one who at the time of Prior's signing smirked at the misfortune of the Twins because thay had to pass on Prior to get Mauer. I guess you never know
  10. I bet the Sox are just trying to get the pieces together to make a trade with the Cubs to re-acquire Cotts :) Seriously I can't see why Peavy would want to go to the Sox as I was under the impression he wanted to play for a contender. Either way, the Cubs have bigger problems
  11. Would Jim Edmonds be worth the Sox taking a look at? He's really not a leadoff hitter I know, but he is a lefty bat.
  12. (Forgive me if this has been covered somewhere already) I am wondering if anything has been reported on Fukodome working with Perry in the off season? Was there any indication Fukudome would stay in the states or have some Cubs coach go to Japan to work with him? My point is, I agree with what has been said regarding him improving, I just hadn't heard much about him doing anything to make it happen.
  13. We go to Frank & Lupes in downtown Scottsdale. Very good Mexican food. Me gusta la margaritas!
  14. Just curious then, have you heard if it is a 3 or 4 team deal as has been rumored? Is Greene included? Any additional perameters etc?
  15. I have been wearing my 3/4 sleeve 70's style Cubs face softball shirt the last few weeks. Cubs dugout coat as well.
  16. I assume then these games would replace the Las Vegas games that the Cubs have played the last few years? Shucks, I liked going to Vegas and watching the Cubs then hitting town...I guess there is plenty of trouble to get into in New York as well though.
  17. I saw the spoof. I thought it was pretty funny, except for the Cubs part.
  18. I too am going with the nameless numberless Cubs authentic current home jersey. My 8 month old daughter is going to wear her pink Cubs floppy hat and use her new Cubs pacifier.
  19. My first game was during spring training '85 out in Mesa. My twin brother and I got Ron Cey's autograph. I was star struck. In those days the players and the fans shared a gravel parking lot. I remember my grandfather talking with Ritchie Hebner as we all walked to our cars. My first game at Wrigley was in '86 when the Cubs played the Braves. Dale Murphy hit a few homers, Cubs lost.
  20. I don't have tickets for any games this weekend but I am going in by train with my sister who is in from Phoenix. I'll be the guy in the Cubs jersey if anyone wants to have a beer with us. :D)
  21. With the team being constructed to win now and looking to be well on target to go deep into the post season, IMHO I don't really care about how payroll would be affected for next year. If ownership has the financial resources, they should get said player if they he can make the team better at reaching the goal. For me the question is can a player help the team get to the world series this year. Huff is versitile defensively and solid offensively. I wouldn't be mad if the Cubs got him.
  22. Doesn't his wife have some family in the Chicago area? I remember a few years back when there were rumors about him maybe being interested in coming to Chicago because his wife was originally from the area. He may not even be married to her for all I know. Anyway, I never have really liked him so I hope the Cubs take a pass on him.
  23. Sorry gang, I meant Gerald Perry. I was a wee bit under the influence when I posted yesterday.
