Rough 1st for Ben Wells: 3 runs on 2 HBP and 2 doubles.

Taiwan Easterling did get his 2nd hit of the season.

Zeke DeVoss 2-run HR in the 3rd. It's his first professional HR.

Wells has recovered after that rough 1st inning. Since the 1st, he's given up 1 H, 1 BB and struck out 4.

Overall for the day, that's 5 IP, 3 H, 3 ER, 1 BB, 4 K, 2 HBP, 7-0 GO-FO. Only 55 pitches so I think he should be out there for the 6th.

Wells has settled down considerably since the first. Just struck out the side (all called 3rd strikes) in the 5th.

Is he typically this much of a groundball pitcher?

Yes. He has a power sinker that misses bats, but it's mainly for inducing grounders, as I understand.

This might be an extreme but he gets gronudballs IIRC with no stats in front of me.

He's probably the most complete SP prospet in the whole system. That's a great thing for him and a bad thing for the system.

Yeah, he's an extreme groundball guy. He had a 3.16 GO/AO last year at Boise.

Zach Cates with a horrible 1st (gave up 5) but threw a scoreless second. All of this is progress after he gave up 6 last time out in 1+.

Logan Watkins with a HR.

That made me curious enough to check. That's #7 in ~1250 minor league at bats.

Micheal Burgess with a HR(reportedly a no doubter) and a 2B. Could he be re-establishing himself as a prospect? He's very age appropriate at 23 in AA.

Keep hitting big man.

Still has the chance to be a RH bat with some power off the bench and a COF glove.

Vitters starts a new hit streak with a first-pitch double off the left-field wall.

Apparently it was a good pitch to hit.
