Solid start for Rhee. Will be curious to see how his stuff looked late.

The top two hitters on Daytona scuffled. Unfortunately, they are the two more intriguing guys at Daytona.

Szczur now with 7 walks and 4 hits on the season.

So we had this last year:

Vitters-22 BB's with 449 AB's

Ha-23 BB's with 520 AB's

Szczur-26 BB's with 447 AB's

And so far this year:

Vitters-3 BB's with 26 AB's

Ha-4 BB's with 33 AB's

Szczur-7 BB's with 29 AB's

Szczur and Ha's strikeouts have gone up so far while Vitters have not. But it's clear what the heavy emphasis is on. I'm intrigued to see Lake come back now to see if he exhibits a similar sort of change.

I'd like to think that all it took was for Theo to walk up to each of them individually, scream "WALK!!!" and then leave.

Javier Baez hit a 400 foot homer today and just like the first one, stood and admired it. The Angels bench told him to run the bases, he did, then got to home plate and yelled "I'll do whatever the [expletive] I want." I guess we may have an idea as to why he's nj ot in Peoria? Also, Marck Malave arrived at Fitch today and worked out at 3B, instead of C.

Man, it's going to be so great when the Cubs have a bunch of guys that can talk [expletive] and back it up. Hope Baez is the first of many more.

Baez has played 3 EXST games. He's 5-10 in those 3 games. With 2 400 foot homers, 2 triples, and a double. This is NOT counting him taking Maholm deep last week in an intrasquad game either.

What would be an optimistic ETA for Baez? September 2014?

Well, the issue that goes along with that is how long do the Cubs keep him at short? Along with that is how Marco Hernandez progresses, as if he's showing well, then he carries potential starting shortstop ability. But roughly speaking, yeah, late 2014 is probably as optimistic as I can envision (rough guesstimate path - summer call-up to Peoria and stay there for this year, in 2013, do some combination of Daytona/Tennessee, and maybe a Tennessee/Iowa combination in 2014).

He would have to roar his way up, and we still don't know how he'll deal with tougher pitching. But it's hard to envision a scenario FASTER than late 2014.

I feel like the Smokies have a ton of interesting relief prospects.

They sure do, and moreover, there's some guys that show late inning potential. I think Cabrera/Hatley have the raw stuff to be late inning type arms but don't have the consistency yet. Frank Batista and Kevin Rhoderick both seem a bit borderline as late inning arms, although I like both of them quite a fair amount. Searle looks intriguing as an aggressive middle reliever, and if Antigua is stuck in the pen, he could be an interesting asset there.

I hope that Byrd ad Soto are taking notice of their heir apparents

Sotos is obvious.

As for Byrd, the options are either thrust Jackson right in, keep Jackson in AAA and give Sappelt first crack, or call up Rizzo for 1st, move DeJesus to center, and give LaHair a look see at right.

I want Campana and Sappelt to get plenty of major league time this season. Take away Reed and one of Dewitt, Mather, or Baker to make room for them. If Byrd is dealt in May, go ahead bring those guys up to platoon for a month or so, before Brett takes over around the ASB.

I think I have a new favorite prospect.
