I for one am psyched. The worse we do, the long-overdue blowup that is already underway will be hastened.

Yes, but the problem is that two of those guys that should be included (Wood and Marmol, ESPECIALLY Marmol) are bombing the f out. Two games and already sick of those two...I mean that to the extent it's possible to mean after two games, but factor in that the two games a pretty gd humiliating.

Remember how unbelievably unhittable Marmol was in 2007 and 2008? His pitches did things that baseballs aren't supposed to do. It was so enjoyable to watch him pitch his inning with complete confidence that not only was he going to get 3 straight outs but he was going to make all 3 batters look silly in the process.

Now his fastball might hit 94 if he's loose and feeling good and the slider isn't a cartoon pitch. Relievers....he's still probably tradable if he gets his act together moving forward.

I think that a lot of was due to the fact that as wicked as his stuff was, more often than not it was well out of the strike zone but so nasty that hitters chased anyway. As they caught on they figured that if they just kept the bat on the shoulder they'd get a free pass. He was forced to adjust and has been far less effective since.

I forgot all about the goofball contract Hendry handed Marmol on his way out the door.

Marmol ... is scheduled to earn $3.2 million in 2011, $7 million in 2012 and $9.8 million in 2013. The deal also includes a limited no-trade clause, and $1 million of the $3.2 million owed to Marmol for the 2011 season will be paid as a bonus before the season, according to a source.

I'm just glad Jimbo got that last year to give out that awful deal. :banghead:

One reason why I scratched my head when some were saying it didn't matter whether Hendry was around. Maybe another GM would've given the same contract, but maybe not. There were some here wanting to trade high on Marmol a couple years ago. Oh well, payroll has to go to somebody I guess

I don't think "blowup" means what you think it means. It's pretty hard to "blow up" this team any more than it has been, and I highly doubt what few older players they still have will be around if they have any trade value. "Doing worse" does nothing to change that; this wasn't a team built to depend on holding on to anyone currently on the 25-man roster outside of Castro (and hopefully Garza).

Yeah, and I don't think Theo and Jed will be waiting until the team is out of "contention" to deal away any tradeable assets there currently are.

You're right. Of course, Soriano, Byrd, Marmol et al would have to excel to make decent trades possible anyway.

Forget that "Blowing up the team" stuff. We're 0-2 when we could be 2-0 and that sucks no matter what type of season was expected.

The Cubs are really gonna miss Cashner and Marshall this year. I didn't like either trade when they happened. Rizzo may turn out to be great, but the Marshall trade is still a head scratcher to me.

It is? Terrible team sells high on a good reliever when he's about to become expensive...what's not to get?

No we won't. If Rizzo turns out to be the player we think he is it's well worth it. Two relivers for a stud everyday prospect trumps all.

His comment only makes sense if one isn't conceeding the terrible team part.....yet.

You can't deny the value they got in the Cashner trade and then ignore the value they got in the Marshall trade.
