“I’m agreeing to work with my rooftop associates,” Loukas said. “Personally, you know, if I was by myself I would let the judicial system take care of it. But because I want to be part of the team and I’m a team player, this is going to be for the good of the other rooftops as well as the Cubs.”

[expletive] hilarious and potentially big news

http://my.chicagotribune.com/#story/chi-rooftop-owners-agree-not-to-sue-cubs-if-only-2-signs-20140703/

The rooftop owners surrounding Wrigley Field have agreed not to sue the Chicago Cubs if the team sticks to last year’s plan to install just two advertising signs in the outfield, two owners said.

The rooftop owners reached out to the Cubs with the offer in recent weeks to settle their long-running dispute. The Cubs have not responded to the proposal, said Jim Lourgos, a rooftop owner.

“The rooftops have been working very hard to find a solution that works for everyone,” Lourgos said. “I haven’t heard from the Cubs yet.”

At this point I think they know the Cubs will win and should push forward with the 7 signs

Completely agree. The blood is in the water, go for the full kill on these motherfuckers.

I really don't want them to agree to this. Signs and more signs.

While I agree with the "[expletive] them" sentiment and do think we'd win a lawsuit eventually, I am still very concerned about how long a lawsuit could take and postpone things from getting done.(or started actually)

Would a law suit actually stop the Cubs from doing whatever they want? I think they could suffer punitive punishment after the matter or be forced to take down signs if they lost (which they won't), but they could technically do what they want. That was my impression at least.

I'm certainly not a lawyer, but I would think the rooftops could file something to stop anything from going on until after its decided. Anyone know if this sounds right?

You never know with judges, but they could potentially get an injunction to stop anything from happening, which I think they've already done at some point. I'm not sure how much luck they'd have, but it's certainly a possibility.

they should also insist that the rooftop owners must submit to having their hearts replaced with baked potatoes and dying immediately.

Cubs are going the [expletive] em route :D

We are 100 percent focused on presenting our revised expansion plan to the Commission on Chicago Landmarks. Our construction timetable depends on getting the required approvals at that meeting so that must be our priority at this time.

We engaged in good-faith discussions with the rooftops and thought we could come to an agreement that would work for all parties. Unfortunately, it didn’t happen. At this point, we’re not prepared to lose another year and jeopardize delivering on the promises we made to our players, fans, partners and neighbors.

We look forward to presenting our revised expansion plan to the Commission on Chicago Landmarks. If they approve our plan, we will begin construction immediately which will generate a significant amount of resources – without taxpayer dollars – to achieve our goals of winning a World Series, saving Wrigley Field and being a good neighbor.

It's more like, "we really don't have any options right now with the hearing coming up."

I saw this...

On Monday, Ganis argued that the speed with which Judge William Gomolinski upheld his right to speak freely — at the earliest possible stage before discovery or trial — speaks volumes about rooftop club owners.

“Are the rooftops so delusional that they think they can stop a person’s First Amendment rights and, if they’re that delusional about something as basic as that, have they had the same delusional approach toward their contract with the Cubs and, if so, is that one of the primary reasons there hasn’t been resolution yet?” Ganis said.

“It’s important to stand up for what’s right, even if it’s inconvenient or costly. In this case, I stood up for what I thought was inappropriate use of the political system for the rooftop owners’ profit. Then, I stood up for the First Amendment right to make that argument. Every now and then, what’s right is what the result is. They had to lose this case or it could have stifled political discourse in Cook County for years to come.”

And this immediately came to mind:

Ladies and gentlemen, l'll be brief. The issue here is not whether we broke a few rules or took a few liberties with our female party guests. We did. But you can't hold a whole fraternity responsible for the behavior of a few sick, perverted individuals. If you do...

shouldn't we blame the whole fraternity system? And if the whole fraternity system is guilty... then isn't this an indictment of our educational institutions in general?

I put it to you, Greg. Isn't this an indictment of our entire American society? Well... you can do what you want to us. But we won't sit here... and listen to you badmouth the United States of America!

I don't think they'd have any issues with the city if they wanted to cancel that hearing and proceed with the originally agreed upon plan. The mayor's office just wants this to start and I can't imagine he wouldn't be beyond happy with that compromise between the Cubs and RTOs being reached and this thing proceeding completely unimpeded. What am I missing?

Its just a long winded way of telling the rooftop owners to go suck a D. It doesnt have to make logical sense, actually its better that it doesn't. The rooftop owners pissed the cubs off, and now that the rooftop owners have force them to piss away over a year of construction time, theyd rather go the route that makes them more money than the route that makes the rooftop owners back off.

So this Loukas guy is probably the pain in the ass RTO who ruined it for everyone else who Bernstein was talking about, right?

Stabbing outside of Wrigley just after midnight this morning:

It's getting worse.

A stabbing? How quaint.

At least 30 people were shot over about 13 hours starting 2:30 p.m. Sunday afternoon and continuing into early Monday morning. Four of the 30 people shot died and several more remain in critical condition.

Why is Chicago such a mess?

Fewer cops, no money, crappy economy, too many guns, outdated public transit that doesn't service enough of the city, the lasting effect of having what was for the longest time the most segregated city in America. Take your pick.

i would argue chicago is still the most segregated city in america

i would also argue that your bitching about wrigleyville crime is horribly myopic; real, tremble-inducing violence happens in parts of the city. wrigleyville is not one of those places

and all of this ignores that the decades-long trend of violence in chicago is in the direction it should be: down
