Build it on the Forest Preserve woods near the Blue Line Rosemont Stop.

Will never happen due to environmental protection, but close enough to the city via Metra and Blue Line and several major highways (90, 294) to be at least intriguing. Also, there's that new Rosemont entertainment district, outlet mall, and casino nearby...

Yeah it shouldn't matter that youre in [expletive] rosemont, don't worry about that

I didn't mean he'd actually design the whole park. Just suggest unique features for the playing field that might be exploitable as a team-building strategy.

I know what you meant. And I think he would be horrible in that instance.

I'll bite. Why?

There was never any chance of it happening, but I would have loved if they had dropped a new stadium onto the remnants of Cabrini Green.

me too. In fact, I think I photoshopped the skyline view from cabrini at some point, but god knows where that is anymore.

Yeah, that was one of the main reasons I wanted it there; whenever I've been to PNC I love the view from the stadium of the downtown area. Wrigley is basically facing the wrong way and has a wonderful view of the turds across the street and that's it. Plus you'd still have bus and train access and a revitalizing neighborhood and ideally Wrigleyville would drown under a tidal wave of frat puke.

Because what he is describing is a design theory that never pans out. It's contrived. Stale. Forced.

Meatheaded fans would cheer it, I'm sure. But the design (and ballpark) would suck after the initial glow wears off.

In fact, I kind of hope it's ugly so we don't have to deal with people fawning over it so that my great-grandchildren get stuck with it when it's crumbling and the team has to divert a bunch of money from MLB payroll to try to piece together a fix.

Because Wrigley is just damn sexy? You like [expletive] bricks and ivy?

I guess I hadn't really thought about it. It doesn't really matter what a building looks like.

I'm not sure what you mean by this, but I think Wrigley is very aesthetically pleasing (from inside).

That would have been perfect. I wonder if that big piece of land at Halsted and Clybourn where they've been advertising a mixed use community for about 7 years is available.

Bricks and green painted steel are about the most mundane, dry materials in the face of the earth. The reason everyone loves Wrigley is because of it's setting, the idea of a pristine ball field, mini greenspace in a sea of city. There is sense of discovery from Waveland, through the turnstiles, up the ramps, and having the field explode before you as you reach the seats. It's compression/release. Layered onto it, a connection with the community around it, a sense of discovery, seeing things that you would have seen 100's of times before in a new way.

N&G / derwoods idea of a ballpark near DT, caprini green is more in line with that design thinking, and actually would be a very interesting design study. This is what design is, not what a place looks like, but what it feels like

If Theo set out to design a ballpark with only the intention of novelties and ignored everything else, it would suck. But honestly, I don't think he is that dumb.

I've seen the Cubs play 46 games in person, in my lifetime. Never at Wrigley. With the goal of eventually seeing an entire season live sometime within the decade. Wrigley better be what I've thought it was, because even when I've been to Chicago, I've made sure not to see it.

Eh, live no where close. Instead of seeing them there, I go to DC every year and used to go to Atlanta. Only 2 places I've ever seen them. Hell, I've never been to ANY sporting event in Chicago and haven't spent a week there in my lifetime. But yeah, I hope it's what I think it will be. At this point, it'll likely be renovated by the time I see it anyway.
