Hahaha....Barney is hitting .450, but his OBP is .477.

the walks will come when pitchers come to respect his newfound prodigious power

Once they start pitching around him to get to Castro, the walk floodgates will open.

and lahair beating up on AAA to the tune of an MVP probably beats soto being terrible in the majors

What? How the hell is that true?

i'm not sure what the MLE's would be, but soto was pretty damn bad

and lahair was pretty damn good at beating up on minor leaguers

i'm guessing it's "probably" close

LaHair MLE: .851 OPS

Soto actual: .721 OPS

Not sure how BABIP would affect each of those.

@BleacherNation: RT @Buster_ESPN The Cubs are looking for bullpen help, now that Jeff Samardzija has been locked into the Chicago rotation.

I'm not seeing the point. The internal options might not be great, but at this point what are we going to get that's worth paying for the minimal upgrade? Even if it's just some $250 K vet, I'd just as soon try Parker, Caridad, Gaub, etc.

Devil's advocate: it's not like they don't have more than enough money. Obviously we don't want them going out there and giving out Eyre/Howry/Grabow contracts, but I'm really not going to lose sleep if they pay someone a small 1-year-deal.

If there was someone out there who would be a legit upgrade for that, I'd be all for it, but at this point guys like Grabow are going to be what's out there. If we're looking for a middle reliever, cycling through internal options is likely the best bet, especially guys like Caridad and Parker whose days could be numbered.

who is even out there?

Thats just it. Probably various encarnayions of Manny Corpas, Trevor Miller, and John Grabow. Middle relief is something that teams are always scrounging for around this time. I know Mike Wuertz us out there, but if there was any gas left in that tank someone would have scooped him up by now.

There's nothing available through FA that would be a significant upgrade, and if they're thinking trade, how much are we willing to give up for mop up men?

Once somewhat regarded Alfredo Simon was waived by the O's, so he'd be an option.

It doesnt seem tbat long ago that I was thinking that our pen of Marmol, Marshall, Shark, Cashner, Carpenter, Russell and Dolis would be our strong suit.

Paying Eyre/Howry/Grabow and their ilk a 1-year-deal wasn't the problem.

It's not a problem, but we already have Camp and Corpas, and whatever we'd get on the cheap at this point would just be a lateral move. And why not give Castillo a month before sending him back to Philly?

Doug Padilla saying that Camp and Castillo are in the clubhouse, but Corpas is not. Haven't heard anything from the team.

Jed says that Camp and Castillo are the last 2 in the 6 man pen, joining Marmol, Wood, Russell, and Dolis.

Since there wasn't really a backup SS on the roster, Valbuena makes it?

Yeah, Valbuena is in. Campana and Lopez look to be the first 2 call ups. With our pen, I could see Lopez and others getting moved up and down constantly.
