Jorge Ebro of El Nuevo Herald

Official: Cuban pitcher Gerardo Concepcion signed a multimillion dollar pact with the Chicago Cubs, a source confirmed to El Nuevo Herald.

Good to hear. I'm interested to know the numbers though.

Awesome. Interested to see the numbers, but obviously we view him more than as a potential 4/5, so this is great news. Shouldn't hurt when it comes to the other guys either.

Wow, Goldstein would put him 6th on his Cubs prospect list. That's much higher than I would have thought, so he evidently thinks pretty highly of him.

That's a pretty big deal that we just signed a guy who automatically jumps into our top 10. May not be Cespedes or Soler, but I'm surprised that this thread hasn't blown up a bit more.

Awesome news. Spend the unlimited amounts while you can. The dude is 18, left-handed and has already had some success. Very happy to hear it!

There's just not much to be said about. He's a nice prospect, but he's got no stats to parse and the scouting all says pretty much the same thing about him.

He has some stats from the same league Cespedes played in. Had a 3.30ish ERA, 53 K's in 101 innings and a 10-3 record. Was named ROY.

For me, if we can trade Garza and sign Soler, this is damn near a perfect offseason for the plan that's been laid out.

Assuming the Cubs trade Garza for a TOR pitching prospect, 1 other good pitching prospect and 1-2 other young upside guys, then yes, it would be near perfect.

You could throw in dumping Soriano and trading Soto and Dempster for decent stuff at the deadline. But that might be getting greedy.

We evidently gave him 7 mill. Unsure whether it's a signing bonus or a major league deal, with it being spread out.

Considering it's the last time the Cubs can spend like this penalty free, the dearth of LH starters in the organization and the quality of the prospect, I say money very well spent.

What level is he projected to start at? High A?

I haven't heard a projection yet. My guess with his age and experience level, he would start at Peoria. But if he impresses at spring training (assuming he'll be there), he could go to Daytona, but I doubt it.

Goldstein:

He's a child. MIGHT pitch in Low-A Peoria this year.

If he's already done well in a league that's supposedly equivalent of high-A or AA, then that doesn't make sense.

Might be a good idea to have the Cubans start in a warm weather city to build confidence. Not to go all Dusty on it, but these guys aren't used to the cold and starting at Peoria and having to deal with the bad weather may be a confidence killer.
