Cutler is having some fun with Brandon Marshall on Twitter tonight. I'd love to trade for him, Cutler and him were great in Denver.

It said something about people internally wanting status quo. That's called job security. Makes sense, it is up to Ted to see past that.

DO YOU TRUST TED TO SEE THAT FAR????

I'm not sure I do. and if "people internally" means Lovie Smith, then what? I'm worried.

I think it means Ruskell himself, plus scouts and staff. I don't trust Ted much, but the Angelo firing showed balls and I'm pretty sure George wants him looking outside organization

From Adam Schefter:
It will make Jay Cutler happy to know Chicago could hire Jedd Fisch or Jeremy Bates, two former Broncos assts, as Bears passing-game coach.

I like the bates idea.

Both are interesting. Fisch is more of an unknown, but they're careers kinda go hand-in-hand. Both were a part of the 2008 Broncos staff. Cutler threw for 4000 yards that year with Bates as his QB coach, but Fisch was the WRs coach and got a 90 catch, near 1000 yard season out of Eddie Royal, numbers he hasn't even come halfway to since. Both are very young at 35-36. Both were college OCs in 2009 before both going to Seattle in 2010. Fisch was OC at Minnesota, but had absolutely no talent and his team finished next to last in the nation in offense. Bates was kinda lackluster when he got his first shot at NFL OC, so I'd probably be more apt to give Fisch a chance, though Bates worked more closely with Cutler at Denver being QB coach.

Along with Shanahan, Fisch has worked with Billick in Baltimore. Was QB coach when McNair made probowl. Was WR coach when Marshall went to the Probowl.

Bates first worked as an NFL assistant under Gruden.

Yeah. Ruskell knows he's out of a job if someone else is brought in. They owe the new guy that much.

Is the Packers' John Dorsey a candidate for the Bears' GM vacancy?

Tim Ruskell really is the worst: http://seattletimes.nwsource.com/html/seahawksblog/2016485412_noneofruskellsfirstroundersremainseahawks.html#.TwnZ4Ep_T6U.twitter

Honestly, I think a somewhat knowledgeable football fan using the internet could achieve similar, if not better, results

Brad Biggs pointed out this morning on the radio that Holmgren was in Seattle for the bulk of Ruskell's reign, and that it's likely he had a large impact on who was drafted. If that helps you feel better at all.

Does it make you feel any better?

If they end up hiring Ruskell, I will definitely use this tidbit to rationalize.

The longer this thing goes, the more likely it is the Ruskell is the hire. At least start the interview process. I don't care if no hire is made until after the Superbowl, but all I see is Bears "looking at" candidates. You got the Senior Bowl and East/West Shrine in the next couple weeks. The combine is a month and a half away. Gotta have a strategy in place at least before the combine. Preferably would have a GM in place for the Senior Bowl in 2 weeks. If Ruskell is the default guy looking at prospects, then we all know what that means.

I thought the Bears might wait until playoff teams started dropping out -- look at candidates from actual successful franchises.

But they don't have to wait. The Raiders hired the guy from Green Bay. Everyone tried to contact the guy from Baltimore.

If they went with Ruskell, I hope they do it short term so they can line up the termination of the head coach and GM contracts. Then they can make big changes all at once.

What's the point of that though? Why not do it all now when you had the chance with 1/2 of that equation already gone? And I actually like Lovie. I don't want him fired, but there's no reason to intentionally hire a short-term GM.
