ROFL...that sounds like a disaster in the making.

i think i'm going to be sick.

where would the Catholic church be without the Popes? i'm wondering if tice will be handling the day-to-day side while the other guy handles the big picture stuff.

If the "passing game coordinator" is some legit up and coming QB coach who can work well with Jay, I'm okay with it. If its' just some Terry Shea clone working on some knockoff version of the Martz system, I'll be completely disappointed.

it just seems like a huge step back, but something the bears would do. it's going to be bad, tice will be out by the end of the season, and lovie now very well may be, too.

this is the ultimate band-aid. jay isn't going to like it.

Yeah, if it doesn't work well, it's a complete band-aid. If it does work well, it could be a bridge to the future. The Bears are good enough to be playoff contenders next year. And if they are, maybe Tice has one year in this role then he's back into the potential head coach candidate list, college or pro, and his 2nd in command takes over. It's not automatically a disaster, depending on who that passing game coordinator is.

It helps maintain a lot of flexibility for the new GM though and, it's not a drastic change for Jay. But it's oh so very Bears.

Yeah I would agree with this. And now I'm intrigued on who this guy could be.

Mike Tice will be in charge of calling offensive plays, but will still have a big role in working with the #Bears offensive line.

Mike Tice's role with #Bears offense will be similar to Rod Marinelli's role with the defense. Both will call plays and develop their lines.

#Bears will hire a quarterbacks coach/passing game coordinator to assist Tice.

That doesn't sound terrible to me, but I'm pretty sure I'm not mad about it because as someone said, it's a total Bears move and I was kind of expecting it.

It all depends on who the QB coach is.

#Bears will hire new OL coach to assist Tice. Darryl Drake remains WRs coach. Tim Spencer remains RBs coach. Mike DeBord remains TEs coach.

This is what I figured would happen, but was starting to hope wouldn't happen. This GM thing is starting to piss me off too. Why wouldn't McKenzie hold out for the Bears job...you know, since we actually have draft picks?

If the Bears are going to be deliberate with the GM search, and not aggressively go after the guy they want, maybe he didn't want to risk it.

I think this actually sucks for Lovie. Tice can't be seen as a long-term solution by whoever the GM is if he can't even be trusted to call pass plays. Unless the passing game coordinator/QB coach is dynamic and an up-and-coming OC candidate, this move reeks of being a 1-year solution for the new GM.

He knows firsthand the huge gap in talent between the Packers/Lions and the Bears and probably sees the AFC West as an easier opportunity.

But he's also a draft guy. And a draft guy just chose to have no draft picks in his first year as GM. Granted he does get a solid team with some decent talent at almost every position, but the same can be said about the Bears in about 3 months (when they get a WR or 2). Even if the Raiders win that division based on their talent level, they still are clearly not a Superbowl caliber team, and they don't have the available resources to get there this coming season.

The Bears on the other hand were 7 points away from the SB 11 months ago and were tied at the 3rd best record in the NFC when they were last healthy.
