Jeff Dickerson ‏@ESPNChiBears

TE Kyle Adams just knocked McClellin backwards during a run drill. Adams a bubble guy to watch again this year. #Bears.

But McClellin does show a burst off the line of scrimmage. Could be a good situational pass rusher early on. #Bears.

Biggs says that McClellin looked good, played some at both end positions, and used a variety of moves...showing his speed.

Said Evan Rodriguez continues to impress, that Marshall had a scare where he went down and had to test out his knee, but had some big vertical plays after that. And Alshon Jeffrey looked "OK".

If he is getting blown back by a TE who probably won't even make the roster what's going to happen against legitimate NFL offensive tackles?

Oh come on...it's one play on the first day of pads...lol

He's a speed guy. Some plays he's gonna make a move and get there, sometimes he's gonna get blown up.

Really liking all the positive news about Evan Rodriguez. Kyle Adams reminded me a little bit of Greg Olsen in preseason games last year, but he's probably still a longshot to make the team.

Curious if Rodriguez makes the team if he'll line up as a TE or at FB or both. Two guys out of the backfield that can catch the ball along with legitimate receivers that can spread the field is an amazing problem for Cutler to have.

Marshall was apparently beasting last night in practice. Cant believe Bears got bot Cutler and Marshall....nfl should be ashamed for allowing this.

From Biggs today:

It’s early in camp but here are 4 players that have stood out.

1) It’s new territory in these parts to watch a WR dominate like Brandon Marshall has with rare combo of size and athleticism.

2) He’s got to stay healthy because if he can Kelvin Hayden adds an important layer of depth to secondary. Good size, already knows D.

3) RT Gabe Carimi is slimmed down and isn’t showing effects of knee injury that cost him rookie season.

4) Rookie Evan Rodriguez is making plays downfield. The TE is back.

Theo's dislike for McClellin is hilarious.

I have as high hopes for McClellin as anyone, but I'd rather not hear from the Bears about his special teams prowress anymore.

Tell me about your hopes for him as a difference maker on the D-Line. That's what I want to hear about. Being capable of contributing on special teams is a given -- not something noteworthy for a 1st rounder.

By far, the star of the evening was receiver Brandon Marshall, who rebounded from an injury scare early in practice to educate the Bears and their fans on what it's like to have a true No. 1 receiver. He made spectacular catches all over the field in 1-on-1, 7-on-7 and 11-on-11 drills. The one that caught my eye was what appeared to be an ad-lib play between him and quarterback Jay Cutler, who moved in the pocket toward the right sideline before firing about across the field toward Marshall, who was running toward the left sideline about 40 yards away. Marshall leaped and caught the ball over close coverage from cornerback Charles Tillman and appeared to keep both feet in bounds on the far sideline. "He's a scholarship player," coach Lovie Smith said. "I think we can all agree on that."

I have very high hopes, I just don't have very high expectations.

Exactly. I'm expecting a Paea-like rookie year from him. I think he will have trouble getting on the field early in the year, but then get into some action after the bye week. Hopefully, though with a couple games against weak competition early (Indy, STL, Jags) he does surprise me and get on the field (blowouts?). But at this point, he doesn't appear ready, even if it's just to rush the passer on 3rd and long. Of course, "this point" is only 4 days into training camp, so plenty of time to go.

It was. I saw it in person. 8-)

I saw something that said "Brandon Marshall continuously made Tillman look foolish, and that's not a knock on Tillman or his ability, just a testament to how good Marshall was that night and how easily Cutler can get him the ball." (paraphrasing)

Devin Hester is unique, and not just as a kick returner.

Hester is also unique in that’s he’s the one and only player remaining from the 2004, 2005, 2006 and 2007 Chicago draft classes who is still a Bear. That’s right, out of 30 players selected over four years, Hester is the only player who is still in Chicago.

None of the three first-round picks from that four-year span – Tommis Harris (2004), Cedric Benson (2005) and Greg Olsen (2006) -- have played for the Bears since the end of the 2010 season.

Olsen, who was traded to Carolina, is still a valuable member of the Panthers’ offense. But neither Harris nor Benson currently has a team.

That is absolutely insane.

Also just my two cents, but I strongly disliked the Shea Mcclellin pick and after reading some tidbits about him being manhandled so far, it definitely is concerning. I think that the Bears should have gone with a more known commodity as a 4-3 pass rusher instead of a tweener still somewhat new to the position.

Heh. I wonder if this is just a TE thing, or if there was a lot of this sentiment amongst the offense?

@ZachZaidman

Kellen Davis says he wouldn't have re-signed if Mike Martz were still Bears offensive coordinator. "Not doable," he said.
