I'm not a huge college football fan, can Floyd really be compared to Fitzgerald? What are Jeffreys comparisons?

And how is he when it comes to YAC?

I actually don't think the Floyd/Fitz comparison is very good, but I have seen it made by several scouts. I think Floyd is more Vincent Jackson than Fitz, as I don't see him with the hip fluidity that Fitz has. By that I mean, Fitzgerald runs routes like a little guy. He has decent straight line speed, but he can really turn and get in and out of his breaks quickly to create separation. I don't think Floyd has that ability.

Yeah, I don't see the Fitzgerald comparisons at all for the same reasons that you mention. Floyd is more of a Brandon Marshall type (I think Floyd is tougher and not as much of a deep threat than Jackson). Actually, the guy that Floyd reminds me of most in the way he runs his routes and his skill set is Calvin Johnson. But he's more Calvin Johnson lite-a little smaller, a little less leap, a little less speed, which translates to less production. But I think they play the game the same way.

I want no part of Jeffery in the 1st. He'll be 260+ and running a 4.7 within 2 years.

Everyone says that, but I don't see it. By all accounts, he has a good head on his shoulders. He's been praised for having a strong work ethic also. I know a lot is being made about "this" picture below. But an overweight WR is nothing that a training camp can't heal. I would be more worried about his ability to separate from defenders and get off of press coverage when smaller CBs get under his shoulder pads.

My biggest concern with Jeffery is that he struggles against press coverage, even against smaller DBs. He should be using his size advantage for good. I'd definitely rather have Michael Floyd or Kendall Wright.

There are also some intriguing WRs in rd 2 or later if the Bears go elsewhere in the 1st (Sanu, Criner, Adams, Childs, etc.).

ETA: Or I could just read raw's post on Alshon.

It would be a tough call, if Mike Adams is on the board at 19 and Michael Floyd is not. I'm not convinced that the Bears even want a Tackle for anything other than a veteran swing guy (a signing similar to Kevin Shaffer). But if they want OT/WR in the first 2 rounds, they have to go OT in the first. Mike Adams and Criner is better than Floyd and any other OT 2nd round or later.

How about Konz?

I'm a huge fan of Konz. I'd love to have him, but I don't think it happens. The Bears re-signed Garza. They still have Spencer and Edwin Williams who can all play C. One interesting scenario would be drafting Konz, moving Garza back to RG and cutting Spencer, who makes a touch over 2Mil next year to save some money. But, Garza played better at OC than he has at OG in years. And I think C is the least important position on the OL.

Different articles from today certainly make it seem like the Chargers are cutting ties with Jackson. Due to the amount of FA WR available this offseason.

Bowe, Colston, and Marshall drop too many balls for my taste. VJaxx would be my far preferred option.

Obviously any of those guys would represent an upgrade, and I'd be excited about them...but I hope we push hard for Jackson.

Dropped passes mean nothing when you consistently catch 75-100 passes. What's the most they'll drop 9-10? Not a significant number when you are talking about a guy with 140+ targets. One of the most overrated stats in football. Every single player drops passes. And there aren't any offensive players in the NFL that drops anywhere near the number of passes to cancel out his production.

Sorry for the mini-rant.

You do realize that was based on drop % right? That factors in targets & drops.

I don't put a whole lot of value into those charts. For instance, there are some pretty crappy WR's on that first chart(lowest drop %). Secondly, 8-10 less drops, over the course of 3 seasons, drops Bowe off that "worst" list. Not to mention what defines a "catchable" ball? Vincent Jackson I'm sure has had a more accurate QB over that time. That data is inconclusive.

Also to note, that Vicent Jackson has two "DUI" strikes. How many games is Ginger going to suspend him if he gets a third?

What was based on drop %? The things in the spoiler tag? I'm getting a red X on those. Still, the point remains. I wouldn't turn any of those WRs down because of drops.

He's already said it would be a year.

Don't apologize, you're dead on. Dumping on a productive WR because he drops a greater percentage of passes thrown his way than some mediocre guy is pointless.

drops aren't so bad, but situational drops are. sanzenbacher lost us at least one game with drops, or at least cost us a chance at win or two. and he was a relatively small part of the offense. roy williams made another drop that probably cost us the kc game. drops are big.

And Welker lost the Super Bowl with a drop. The point is not that drops are good or bad. Obviously nobody wants a drop. But you don't rank a WR by drops.
