The reason Bynum often gets blamed (sometimes it is warranted and other times it isn't) is for games like today. He doesn't always assert himself. Look at Games 1 and 7 against Denver where he went 10-13-10 and 16-18-6. When he wants to be, he can be very good. Tonight he has 10-4-0 with no offensive rebounds. He had exactly one other game with no offensive rebounds and no blocks this year and this is only the fourth game where he hasn't pulled down an offensive rebound. On April 11, he had 30 rebounds (8 offensive) against the Spurs. Nine days later, he had two rebounds against the Spurs in 29 minutes of the floor. I don't even know how that's possible.

Fact is, he doesn't bring it each and every night. Kobe has bad games, but the effort is always there. That's not the case with Bynum.

I do agree, however, that Kobe needs to defer more often to Gasol and Bynum to at least try to get them involved early like he did in Game 7 against Denver.

I can't wait to see how cubbyvirus is going to pin this loss on Kobe.

Just coming up shy scoring half of the team's points? I dunno, he inexplicably debates with Lakers fans on a daily basis, so expect some gems.

Hahaha you mention my name and nuts comes running. Jock riders are the best!

Well the problem is half the offense is being run thru Kobe. Perhaps swing the ball and get your teammates involved? Nahhhhhh

I don't understand what that's supposed to mean. I'm jealous of you? I want to bang you? Why is "jock riding" supposed to be an insult here?

LOL.

Kobe had 0 assists in 40+ minutes. It's safe to conclude that the offensive possession ends with him taking a shot, like it did last year when they were destroyed by Dallas.

So, no explanation? I'm just supposed to be furious over "jock riding?"

Yeah, he should have swung it to Ramon Sessions (1-6), Devin Ebanks (1-4) and Pau Gasol (5-14) more. Ron Artest was the only other Laker to have a good game. If those guys hit what were probably some wide open shots, Kobe might have had a few assists.

Bynum and gasol had very little touches down the stretch yet again. Kobe is not known as a motivating facilitator and the lakers squad looked very tentative. As the leader of that team you gotta get ore guys involved

Clearly the Lakers should have gone to the guys who shot 35.7 and 40 percent for the game instead of the guy who shot 54.5 percent.

So, in summary:

LeBron = terrible because he always passes instead of taking the big shot

Kobe = terrible because he never passes and always takes the big shot

I'm not at all a Kobe fan but he wasn't the reason they lost that game (he was one of the main reasons they lost games 2 and 4).

They just weren't going to win more than, at best, 2 games in that series. That's a very flawed team going up against a superior, younger, fresher team.

Yeah, Lakers won a single game, at home, by 3 points.

Thunder were just better this year.

I'd like to see them take out San Antonio. It would be nice to see a new team from the West.

The Spurs are boring as hell. Ideally, I'd like to see OKC beat the Heat in the finals. Durant needs to get his respect as one of the game's elite. And LBJ needs to keep losing, but I don't want to see old ass Boston in the finals again.

Much as I dislike the Heat, I'd watch a decent portion of a Heat/Thunder series.

BOS/SA would be a nightmare sleeper of a finals.

Westbrook is so awesome. (Plus I love seeing Darren Collison and Jrue Holiday all over the playoffs too.)

Do you think that's just because it's not fresh, or some problem with how the NBA markets itself? On paper, it looks like a great matchup. The run and gun elite offense of SA vs the grind it out, elite defense of Boston. And all the stars are at the same positions on the court so they would face off quite a bit on the court.

And still this is probably the most exciting Spurs team to watch over the last 7 years. If the Spurs do manage to win it this year where would that put Popovich in terms of all time greatest coaches?

Regardless of who wins I want the West to win it all. Preferably Durant and OKC.

Pop is as good as it gets as a coach. Granted Jackson and Auerbach won about 11-13 rings each, but they also had devasting teams and the privelege of coaching top 10 players in NBA history. Duncan's pretty good himself, but Pop has made it work with him no longer being a superstar. He also made it work with Robinson/Duncan, something Houston could not do back in the day with Olajuwon/Sampson.

Yeah, it would be a great matchup. And the Spurs arent' really boring anymore. They go like 11 deep, they're actually kind of fun to watch, but they are historically boring and they do have times where they bog down and get back to that. Both teams have an interesting mix of old stars and extremely young role players.
