So last year the Raiders became the first team ever to go 6-0 in their division but miss the playoffs.

This year, the Raiders are on the verge of another impressive feat (though I hope it doesn't happen). So far, they're 3-2 in the division with one game left. Their wins have come at Kansas City, at San Diego and at Denver. Their losses have come at home to Denver and at home to Kansas City.

I'm on the front page of ESPN.com and made their 10 photos of the week.

Hahahahahaha. That's awesome.

Saints/Brees totally went for and got the record on that drive.

Man, if only Carolina had hit their stride just a couple weeks earlier. If they hadn't blown a big lead against Atlanta and Olindo Mare could kick a [expletive] field goal, this could've been a playoff team. Hopefully the momentum continues into 2012.

Andy, I was saying this same thing verbatim yesterday. I'll be the first in line to admit they were dead wrong about Newton. While not my "favorite team" I pull for the panthers because they are more interesting when relevant and like to see local teams flourish. I thought he had potential but to do what he's done since day one is mind-blowing.

Side note: as someone with absolutly no vesting interest in Green Bay or Rodgers, it has been fun murdering people on Facebook calling for Brees MVP.

As a Packers fan I want nothing to do with the Saints at all. I have no idea how they will stop them.

Same way the Saints will be able to stop Rodgers. They wont. It will be a 45-42 type game and whoever has the ball last will win. Both teams have to get to the NFC Championship game first however.

Also, congrats to Brees. Awesome to watch.

And congrats on still only getting 2nd in the MVP ;)

No one cares about my fantasy league BUT...

In our League Championship game. The 2 teams tied at 113. So the higher seed ended up winning, and the team who lost had Rivers going who ended up with 299 passing yards. He had 119 points on his bench, including Jordy Nelson and Malcom Floyd. Epic loss.

If they were arguing for Tony Romo to be MVP then you could murder them, I'm not sure what there is to "murder" someone over who thinks that a guy with his stats should get MVP.

There is not some huge difference in their stats.

Rodgers: 4,643 yds, 45 TD, 122.5 qbr (on pace for highest all-time), 68.3% comp

Brees: 5,087 yds (highest all-time obviously), 41 TD, 108.4 qbr, 70.7% comp (on pace for highest)

I'm of the opinion that they should be CO-MVP's, like in 03 and 97, since both are playing at about the highest levels you can really play at that position and the value that both bring to their respective teams is immeasurable.

You have to factor that Green Bay pulled Rogers how many times in the 4th qtr this year? While the Saints chose to run up the score for the sake of stats(see the Colts game)

Brees didn't play at all in the 4th against the Colts, was out with 12:50 left in the game against the Vikings, and was out of the game with 10:41 left against the Giants.

Rodgers was out against the Broncos with 7:46 left, out with 10:59 left against Vikings, and didn't play the entirety of the 4th against the Raiders and was out of the 4th against the Bears.

So that's not a very valid argument.

And this talk about running the score up in the Colts game...hell the Saints didn't even attempt a pass in the entire 4th qtr. In the Vikings game they only attempted one pass after 12 mins left.

Congrats to Brees. I'm first a Purdue fan, but that rarely works out, so Boise State is my secondary team from having lived there for a couple years. I've been a fan of his since college, even though I've obviously rooted against him at times. Still, he's a class act and it's easy to be happy for him. I hope the Saints get something worked out with him long term.

Play him outside

Excellent point.

If the Saints played the Packers in the Dome, I would take the Saints as my pick. But, with that game being in January in Lambeau, I think the Packers would win.

Just a lot of friends saying "I don't see how Brees can't win the MVP now" type of arguments. I'm not quite sure when so many of my friends became Saints/Brees fans, but anyway.

Rodgers has more Touchdowns (45 vs 41), less than half as many interceptions (6 vs 13), a higher QB rating (122.5 vs 108.4) and better overall team record. Sure, Brees has more yardage, but the difference is fairly negligible. This is especially true since Brees threw the ball 120 more times than Rodgers (Brees = 8.17 yrd/pass attempt, Rodgers = 9.24 yrd/pass attempt).

Both had extremely good seasons, and the season Brees had would probably win the MVP 9 times out of 10, but I don't see any way possible you could give him the nod over Rodgers.

Oh, and I think co-MVPs are stupid. Pick one already.

This was also the argument made yesterday on ESPN radio. I believe it was Linda Cohn filling in for Scott Van Pelt.

As always seems to be the case (with the exception of Doug Gottlieb), I enjoyed the show more listening to the "fill-in" host.

Yeah, there's no real way to pick Brees over Rodgers at this point. Brees is having an MVP worthy season, but Rodgers is having one of the best 5 seasons in QB history (and quite possibly the best ever). They are so far ahead of the field that it can be easy to lump them together, but Rodgers has definitely been better.

Co-MVP's are just a fluke anyway when the voting happens to be tied. It's not like a group gets together and decides to have co-MVPs.

Wow, it takes a really Einstein to make that point. Hold the presses folks: the Packers would play better at Lambeau in the freezing ass cold than a team that plays indoors and lives in the South.

49ers release Braylon Edwards.

"I was released today by the 49ers due to my injury that required more time to rehab and hasn't allowed me to re-sync with the offense," Edward wrote on his website. "I wish the 49ers organization the best of luck during the Playoffs. I will be working hard this off season to strengthen my knee and prepare for the 2012 season."

I'm biased obviously but I'm trying not to be here.

There are two reasons why I can't pick Brees over Rodgers. Brees has over 100 more attempts than Rodgers and with that advantage isn't that far behind Brees in yards. Conservative estimate says that Rodgers would have about 1000 more yards if he had the same amount of attempts Brees had. Brees also has more interceptions by a decent margin.

I don't think you can discount Rodgers running ability either. He had over 250 yards rushing and kept many drives alive with his legs. He's not the best running QB ever but it's a weapon. Brees has done nothing like that running the ball.

Drew Brees season has been remarkable but Rodgers has been even better.

Posted

Rodgers also has 3 rushing TD's this year, giving him 48 on the year. Brees also has 5 multiple interception games this year, Rodgers has had none. Brees has cost his team's games this year, Rodgers has not.

With that said, Brees is still have a monster year. He does deserve some votes but it should be Rodgers.

If they meet in the NFC Title game it will be epic.
