This day made it pretty clear that the officials have decided "when in doubt, call it a TD and let review sort it out" at some point during the season.

I'm ok with that.

14-0

Well I guess this bit me in the ass, didn't it?

But 13-1 is still pretty damn good. And if they were gonna lay an egg I'd rather it be now than in the playoffs.

It seemed an obvious thing to say.

Perhaps. But 19-0 was a pipe dream.

It's unnecessary pressure to put on a ballclub, especially with the dilemma of resting players that always comes up. Then you throw the Jennings & Bulaga injuries into the mix -- the pressure mounts to start resting more guys.

Are there still scenarios left where the Packers wouldn't be the #1 seed?

I know the Packers hold the tiebreaker with the Saints if those two teams would be tied (Packers would have to lose out and Saints win out if they were to tie). I don't know who holds the tiebreaker in either a 3 team tie between the Packers 49ers, and Saints (again Packers would have to lose out and Saints/49ers would both have to win out) and I don't know who holds the tiebreaker in a straight up tie between the 49ers and Packers.

There might be one, but after SF lost to the Cards last week I'd bet it's almost impossible to have happen

With only 2 weeks to play, only 10 teams have been mathematically eliminated from the playoffs. Only one team has clinched a bye (GB), and nobody has clinched home-field (although the Packers could do so tomorrow night).

7 of the 12 spots are already spoken for. That means that 15 teams are playing for 5 spots.

AFC

The loser of Baltimore/Pittsburgh will claim a wild card spot, the other the division. That leaves the AFC West which can be won by any of the 4 teams (WOW!), and a wild card spot which can be won by Denver, Oakland, San Diego, Tennessee, Cincinnati, or the Jets. Basically, 7 teams are vying for 2 spots.

NFC

The very important 2/3 seed has yet to be determined (SF, NO, and ATL). Can't believe ATL still has a mathematical chance at a bye... The Giants, Dallas, and Philly can all win the NFC East.

New Orleans, Atlanta, Detroit, Dallas, the Giants, Chicago, Seattle, and Arizona all could be wild cards, but New Orleans is already guaranteed a playoff spot. So, the Giants, Dallas, Philly, Atlanta, Detroit, Chicago, Seattle, and Arizona are all gunning for 3 spots.

It's also possible that SF still gets the 4 seed. (2 being NO or ATL and 3 being DAL).

Playing with the playoffs machine, Philadelphia has a moderately realistic shot at winning the division still. I didn't realize that.

Packers lost their Week 15 game last year too. We all know what happened after that.

They lost the next week to the Giants, we're eliminated from the playoffs and the Steelers won the Super Bowl?

At least that's how it plays out in my head.

Tebow has played 2 good teams this year and has been out scored 86 to 33 so far.

Why are the Lions a good team, and the Jets and Raiders aren't?

Because they'll make the playoffs?

Obviously you're selling the Raiders short. No shame in losing by 20 to the Dolphins.

Yeah, or winning by 5 @ Houston.

The Packers lost to the Chiefs and the Saints lost to the Rams. They're terrible too.

So even in your head you don't have the Bears winning the Super Bowl last year, huh? Interesting.

another edition of interesting stats*

Matthew Stafford is the second-youngest player to throw for 4,000 yards and at least 30 touchdowns in one season. Dan Marino was the youngest.

Stafford is now up to 33 passing touchdowns on the season, which is a single-season Lions record.

With their rally on Sunday, the Lions became the first team in NFL history to come back from 13 or more points down to win on four separate occasions in one season.

From 2006-10, the Lions won a total of five road games. This year, with one away game remaining, the Lions already have five road wins.

*only interesting to me, of course

The Lions are actually a respectable football team. I'm pretty sure that's one of the signs of the upcoming apocalypse.

Good grief.

The comment was not meant to be taken as a statement on the Raiders as a whole but if someone wants to believe Oakland is a good team to make poor Timmy feel better, have at it. I have no idea why calling a 7-7 team mediocre is such a controversial statement.
