Major League Baseball has taken an unprecedented step in the Biogenesis of America investigation, paying a former employee of the South Florida anti-aging clinic linked to performance-enhancing drugs for documents on athletes named in the case, the New York Times reported Thursday night.

The move, according to the newspaper, came after at least one player linked to the clinic bought documents from a former employee there in order to destroy them. The Times, citing two unidentified people briefed on the matter, reported other players connected to the now-shuttered clinic have attempted to do the same in order to keep the potentially incriminating documents away from the league.

Fantasy baseball issues?

A guy in my league tried to trade me Braun after he saw the news. I guess he was hoping I wouldn't check.

I didn't check and traded for him, adjusted my lineup, then came here and read this.

I doubt those in my league will feel any sympathy, though.

What does it mean......SEEK to suspend?

They're MLB. Suspend the bastards.

Do. Or do not. There is no try.

They probably want to make sure they have enough proof to win an appeal. If they suspended all of them and they all won their appeals it would be incredibly embarrassing to the league and no one would take their PED program seriously.

Wait, so a serious question here... Yasmani Grandal, Cabrera, Colon, etc. have already served a suspension for PED's. Their first strike. If they're double charging everyone for Biogenesis, will they get a lifetime ban since they already had their first strike? Grandal is only 24.

Lupica was on this morning saying that he thinks the reporting is getting ahead of itself on this one -- they have an agreement for Bosch to flip and cooperate, but they do not yet know what he will say. So, talk of suspensions and length of suspensions is premature at this point.

My thinking is that prior busts are included on the list. So with Cabrera, he served his 50 games; assuming that the offense in question is the one that he was previously suspended for, I can't imagine that the players union would allow MLB to give him double jeopardy.

As for Braun, his case is more complicated; on one hand, if this is the same offense that he was already given a suspension, appealed, and won, if MLB re-opens it that too would be double jeopardy.

Even if it is re-opened, and MLB aggressively pursues a 100 game suspension, the players association could be extra protective of him due to the sentiment that MLB's coming down on him extra hard as an act of vengence to save face after allowing him to slip through their fingers last time, thus making their system look bad.

If they're going to up the penalties based on the fact that players lied about their actions, then I figure Braunie gets a lifetime ban from the get-go.
