With false neg/pos rates on elevated hormone tests, you'd need 7% synthetic hormone usage in MLB for real positives to outnumber false ones.

IOW, MLB falsely busts a hundred major leaguers per year. But we know that isn't true.

ESPN is just loving this I bet. Taking down the Brewers franchise player to show that the only way the Brewers could win is by using PEDs

I don't understand. Why would ESPN even care about this?

I love trashing ESPN with the rest of them, but we are talking about a network that held on to the recording of Fine's wife for 9 yrs. I don't think they would go out on a limb to throw Braun under the bus unless they had some good sources.

Source: Braun tested positive for a prohibited substance, not a performance-enhancing drug. More coming on FOXSports.com. #Brewers #MLB

From the article...

Brewers spokesman Tyler Barnes said Saturday that the team had not been contacted by the commissioner's office and the team had no knowledge of a failed test. Messages left for MLB officials were not returned. Greg Bouris, spokesman for the Major League Baseball Players Association, declined comment.

Since being informed of the results, Braun has been disputing his case. A source close to Braun said that when he was told about the positive test, he immediately requested to be tested again. That second test, the source said, was not positive. Those close to Braun believe that the difference between the two tests will show that the first test was invalid.

Obviously I am holding out the smallest hope ever.

Again, the sad part of this is that even if he wins his appeal, his rep is shot. He won't be banned, but he'll wear it for life.

Yep, just like Andy Pettitte, Mike Morse, and Edinson Volquez.

And the source says there has "never" been a result like this in the history of the MLB testing program.

What does that mean? They've never seen testosterone levels that high?

First things first: I don't think that Braun is a roider, at lest in the Bonds, Sosa, McGwire, etc. sense of the word

I have no idea what this means.

It means he likes Braun and not the others

Then it very well could be a pain killer so he could play through injury. I don't know what all is considered prohibeted, but I know those things can be dangerous. In fact, when a lot of these WWE guys die young under mysterious circumstances these are the main culprit. Obviously they take a lot more than Braun would have been given.

I'm assuming that if it's prohibeted, he'll get the suspension anyway but the Brewers don't have to worry about him turning into Tony Campana upon his return, however Braun always seems to have these nagging injuries but narrowly avoids the DL so they might be starting to worry about his health going forward especially considering his 35 year contract.

Yup, I'm a notorious Brewers fan. That's why I was one of the few people here who was rooting against them in the NLCS, although I wasn't hoping for the Cardinals to go on and win the next round as well.

The plot thickens...

Something definitely doesn't compute here. Braun is no dummy. He already had his big contract. Baseball is a business where there's lots of money at stake. Anything's possible including criminal forces at play tainting something in his food or his normal supplements. Braun may have ticked off the wrong people. Heck Attanasio may have made enemies in business as well.

This is excellent Pujols therapy.

hey buck up there, rafael furcal resigned for two more years. not only is he a decent player but he also may pick up the DUI slack left by larussa's departure.

I figured Freese and Dan Mclaughlin could cover it.

Not to mention Josh Hancock.

No wait, that won't work this time.

My mistake, he's dead

As I was saying yesterday, baseball is going to make this go away. It can't afford for one of the faces of its new generation to be suspended 50 games for anything related to roids, and certainly not after Bud Selig came out and talked about how clean the sport is now with players such as Braun.

Except it has come out that it is not roid related at all. Keep up.

NO. This is not even mildly correct.

EDIT: Eh. That was kinda mean.

It's too late for that. It was once it leaked. If the news hadn't made it to the press, it could have possibly been swept under the rug, but not now. Trying to "make it go away" would just create a bigger scandal, and make MLB look like it's perpetrating a cover-up to make itself look clean. If you say it was a bad test, the system comes into question. If you exonerate Braun, you look like you're playing favorites (doubly so given Bud's ties to Milwaukee) or trying to maintain the illusion of a clean sport. None if it would fly with the public.

No, someone is going to have to wear this.

And baseball can't say that, why?

But you can say what they are going to try to say: It wasn't a roid in the first place. The leak by ESPN was wrong.

Testing works. Braun isn't a roider.

Hey, fans, let's forget about this all and blame it on the media.

This sounded like it was a good read before you edited. No worries. You can't hurt my feelings.
