NL MVP Ryan Braun has tested positive for a performance-enchancing drug, reports Mark Fainaru-Wada and T.J. Quinn of ESPN. YokalSports.com was the first to report the news (on Twitter). Braun is facing a 50-game suspension and is disputing the positive test through arbitration.

"There are highly unusual circumstances surrounding this case which will support Ryan's complete innocence and demonstrate there was absolutely no intentional violation of the program," said a spokesman for Braun in a statement. "While Ryan has impeccable character and no previous history, unfortunately, because of the process we have to maintain confidentiality and are not able to discuss it any further, but we are confident he will ultimately be exonerated."

Braun, 28, was notified of the positive test in late-October.

Had to pound those PED's to get that massive contract. Now he'll shrink back down to size....after missing a third of the season. Brew Crew will be without Prince this coming season, and now Braun for the first 2+ months. Ha.

Okay, seriously, this is the reaction every time this happens. I mean, I suppose mistakes can happen, but it is getting a little old.

Reading the Brewers board it would seem that many fans are shocked and surprised. How can anyone be surprised by a player testing positive for PEDs? It would not surprise me one bit if any Cub tested positive, even ones that I like.

I'm pretty shocked by this, TBH. I never had him pegged as a potential PED user.

i see you lurking there, ELCABALLO. Did you really mean it when you said you hope there's an opt-out in Braun's contract?

Tongue in cheek.

This truly does suck. No other way around it. And if for the 5 percent chance he is telling the truth, it won't matter. In everyone's mind he is a juicer now.

So if this holds up, this means auto-no HOF, right?

Probably. At the very least his reputation is permanently damaged, regardless of the success of an appeal. And that's not fair (if he's being honest).

He's gonna hear it for years, and Brewers fans are gonna hear it for years.
