So, I had a facebook status stating that Ron getting elected was bittersweet and that it should have happened years ago. A guy I went to college with left this response:

He got voted in by the veterans committee which is basically a bunch of sentimental old guys whose testosterone levels have fallen and don't the the wherewithal to keep the integrity of HOF where is should be. If they can add subpar players afterward, maybe they should also remove subpar players that already in. There's a reason he didn't get in for 15 straight years by the BWAA.

Aside from removing him from my friends list, I'm not quite sure how to respond without calling him a moran.

He has so many flaws in his argument and the phrasing makes it seem like he isn't willing to change his opinion anyways. Starting an argument would probably be more of a frustrating pain in the ass than anything

Why do you guys bother arguing with idiots?

You did own him pretty hard, though. Even though he'll have no idea what you're talking about.

Because it's fun and Ken Tremendous is my facebook picture right now.

Post his response please (if he has one).

I'm thinking he won't.

MOAR!

I don't see how stating Santo is 105th all time in WAR is helping his case. There are a lot more than 105 players in the hall of fame meaning he's better than a good chunk of them.

EDIT: I deleted the link so your name doesn't show up if you want to change it.

In case you or anyone else doesn't follow KT on twitter...

Electing someone into the Hall of Fame after they've died seems almost vindictive or something. Still, congrats to Ron Santo.

I think if he were still living this thread would be at 12 pages by now. Like others have said this just seems hollow. Although it is damn cool to go to his BR page and see the gold Hall of Fame banner thing.

I can't even describe it. I'm almost outraged by this. Not really, but maybe yes. I'm glad he's in the hall but for it to happen quickly after his death is some kind of insult.

That's the best I can put it into words.

What are you afraid people will use your real name to track down your twitter and obsessively stalk your every message?

yes, case in point, erik

I'm not sure what you mean by this:

If you're thinking I'll stalk you-- please. Get over yourself.

If people are stalking me, I pity them because they have nothing better to do with their lives than track down people who displease them on the internet. I'm really not that interesting.

I was checking Ron out on baseball reference(because someone in another post compared Ron's career OPS+ with Bill Madlock.)

Anyway, Ron never even received 50% or the vote for the HofF from the BBWAA. His first year he only received 4%. I have never been over the top about Ron getting in the Hall, but come on.

Writers didn't like him and a lot of his value was in walks and OBP, which weren't well-understood at the time.

So, with Santo in, who's the most deserving eligible candidate?

I'm thinking Alan Trammell has to be up there.

Trammell has the greatest disconnect between his vote totals and where he should be. Without looking too much into it, I'd say Raines or Bagwell.

If Tim Raines or Jeff Bagwell are HOF I want a refund. Alan Trammell was a great SS but was not even the best of his era. Glad Ronny is in. Really sucks that they found a way the year he died. Not surprising, though. I have predicted this for a long time. People suck. Nothing new.

mickey mantle wasn't the best CF of his era, should he not have been considered for the hall of fame?

There are a lot of people that do not belong in the HOF. Mantle is not one of them.
