jonmorosi: #Astros will eat some salary to move Carlos Lee, who is better at 1B than OF. #Indians a fit but wary of cost.

If for some reason we don't end up with Pujols or Fielder, any interest in Lee at 1B? He's always hit really well at Wrigley. He's only under contract through 2012 and is owed $18.5mil.

Buster_ESPN: Source: Hanley Ramirez's rep asked the Marlins for a restructured deal. MIA upset with this, will now be looking to trade Hanley

Definitely getting old, but he was 4.6 WAR last season per B-R. Just another option that's out there.

Too bad Hanley is adamant about playing SS.

Not really. Make it work. Move Castro to 2B.

Can the Cubs afford Headley AND Hanley talent wise?

Buster_ESPN: Marlins upset with Hanley, because given his subpar year in '11, they were greatly surprised he wants more money to change positions.

I dont think we can afford Hanley talent wise. I don't think that if Headley is going to cost as much as some thing but Hanley will cost a ton and a lot of teams will be offering packages of top prospects if he's available. However, if we had a chance to trade for Hanley and Headley was going to be a roadblock I'd happily move on from Headley and send the Rockies Tyler Colvin and John Maine for Stewart and let him have 3rd.

I'm not moving Castro anywhere, especially for a guy who didn't outperform Barney last year. Hanley isn't a fit. He has to play SS, and he's a bad defensive SS who's had some severe consistency problems at the plate. If it works to be a 3rd team in a Hanley deal, then do that. But otherwise it's not going to be worth it.

What's Hoyer saying?
need for organizational depth and long term assets...side stepped a question about fielder, some bs about Z and about being back with theo

The contradiction meetings continue:

Ken_Rosenthal: #Marlins prez Samson: Hanley did not ask for contract to be restructured. Hanley not getting traded. Hanley critical part of team

General FA question: Is there still a team limit on type A FA signings under the new CBA? If so, I imagine the Marlins are getting close to it.

How exactly? Defensively?

When you throw in defense, if Ramirez was better, it can't be by much.

Overall. Ramirez put up a 1.3 fWAR and 0.5 bWAR to Barney's 2.2 fWAR and 1.0 bWAR.
