Hoyer says he does not see DeJesus as a platoon player. #Cubs

I wouldn't expect anything different. I'm sure it's hard to woo free agents from other suitors by dangling a potential platoon role in front of their faces.

... that doesn't mean things don't have a way of working out differently once the season starts.

From Bruce

#Cubs GM Hoyer says DeJesus "does a lot of things very well": hits RHP, plays RF well, runs bases well, doesn't strike out a lot.

#Cubs GM Hoyer says he's still talking with agent Pat Rooney about bringing Kerry Wood back for 2012.

I'm concerned that Hoyer didn't mention anything about hustle.

It's Jebadore. I may set up a word filter for it.

theo needs to be first on the marquee

He's not Larry Lucchino. He doesn't have to stand in front of Hoyer to feel respected.

all the more reason to give him the honor

Looking at his splits, he was noticeably better on the road

I'd hardly call his away splits "noticeably better".

.229/.331/.364/.695 (H) vs. .250/.315/.386/.701 (A)

one good way to describe them would be "slightly worse"

This move would seem to indicate that Colvin is gone and possibly one of Byrd/Soriano. BJackson seems like a Epstein type of guy (good patience, good fielder etc) so I'd think he has a spot.

edit: or I suppose, Jackson could be trade bait.

DeJesus is hardly the type of player you trade away your top prospect to make room for.

Solid. Not flashy but good value bet. Go Jebadore go.

I like Jebadore. The best one I came up with was Theoyer

Hoystein, imo.

too dairycowish

Oh the irony.

So. Something we can all agree on.

His wife is quite a thing.

holy mother of frack....

A professional athlete with a hot wife? You don't see much of that.

For some reason, Anna Benson is my default association with that.

Agreed, I hope Jackson stays around, but if he ends up being traded for some good, young pitching it would be a win IMO.

If they traded him it wouldn't be to make room for DeJesus. DeJesus would just be playing a position he might've filled going forward while you used Jackson to get value elsewhere.

Something tells me this move wouldn't be getting universal praise around here if Hendry was still at the helm.

I echo whoever said it's like having two Marlon Byrds on the team.

to be fair, i think most people at nsbb favored the deal hendry got for marlon byrd

wow, 51 career stolen bases vs. 46 caught stealing

are we sure he runs the bases well?

He's a good base runner without being necessarily a good base stealer. The BsR value at FanGraphs is calculated as kind of an inverse UZR, of limited value in year to year samples but of measurable value over a career. It factors stealing bases, getting picked off, advancing extra bases in situations, and basically not making outs on the basepaths.
