Jon Heyman tweets that it's 2 years, 10 million.

EDIT: Levine adds that there's a team option for a 3rd year.

Not really thrilled with having 0 power at 1 of the corner spots, especially with no 1B or 3B (or LF really) in tow. He's on the wrong side of 30, coming off a subpar season. I do have faith in the front office that he's just a piece of the puzzle and not the major acquisition of the offseason, but the Cubs don't have enough good players yet for me to get excited about a role player.

this guy kind of sucked last year. his k/rate was way up from previous seasons, and he hit more fly balls than ever before, especially infield pop-ups. maybe those were all foul balls because he was playing in the stupid oakland coliseum.

uzr likes his defense a lot, but uzr also likes vaseline on toast, so i'm not going to get too excited about that.

So would this indicate that the Cubs are out of the running for Cespedes?

Nah, I don't think so. He's a CFer who can also play the corners. Brett is the same way, so I think we're fine, on that front. Most rumors have had us more interested in Soler anyway though. By the way, 2 years and 10 mill, with a team option is solid value for DeJesus. Good job, first move out of the way.......

So now we basically have 2 Marlon Byrds?

Yes.

Seems like a waste of money. We're going to suck this year, just let Colvin flame out once and for all and let Brett Jackson get some playing time.

His O-Swing% last year was at the same time the highest he's ever had for his career and lower than any Cub hitter last year that's still a Cub.

David Dejesus hasn't really been on my radar for a long time so maybe I'm missing something here. But can someone explain why this is such a great signing? His numbers look absolutely pedestrian, if not inconsistent. He's a power-deficient, average OBP, low-OPS hitter who I'd assume is still athletic, but doesn't steal many bases. Is he an amazing defender or something? He doesn't jump out at me as "get this guy in the lineup at #1 or #2 and let him roll". I'm not opposed to the move, especially since the money is reasonable, just looking for a reason to be excited. Thanks.

Even with a sub-.700 OPS last year he was still a 2 win player. UZR likes him in RF, but so does everything else(Total Zone, BIS, scouting).

He's a far more patient Marlon Byrd, except DeJesus adds more value on the basepaths and in the field (as a corner OF).

Plus, I have a feeling the Cubs send Byrd somewhere before the end of the year.

This move MAYBE indicates Brett doesn't start next season in the majors or it could mean Brett is trade bait. Or it could mean nothing at all. But it's a solid signing and evidently part of the big plan.
