Treymon loses thread starting privies as the Bears lose. I'm hoping that was Hanies learning game as I expected it to be. This week we've got KC who held Pitt tight. Maybe we'll get to play Neckbeard, but I'd rather see Andy Pafko's long lost grandson. or is it Palko? I guess I'm trying to say this guy is so damn obscure we cant possibly lose to him... Bears are 8 point favorites, and I think that is pretty stupid with Caleb Hanie at QB. He's a TAINT waiting to happen. I'm thinking the Bears struggle to pull this one out with Orton spreading the ball around and tossing a couple TDs.

Orton wasn't all that great earlier in the season, in fact he was probably below average.

the real question is whether or not our D will show up. They played "Lets give up FG's" yesterday, but Oakland basically went down the field at will.

You don't have to be that good to be able to pass against this defense.

I'm not as down on Hanie as you appear to be. He had 3 ints, 2 of which were really bad decisions. The third was a bad play call following a misread on Hanie's part (he should have seen the 2 defenders). Out of all that, Oakland got 6 points. That's it. Hanie can make the throws, his deep pass to Knox showed his arm, and he can scramble. He's just so [expletive] raw.

The defense really needs to do better this game, and especially the special teams. Leckler (or whatever the hell his name is ) killed us. We just didn't match up to them well enough.

The Chiefs were a middling team that lost 4 of their best 8 players to season ending injuries. They haven't scored a touchdown in like 45 possessions. Unless Hanie starts throwing pick-sixes left and right, the Bears are going to win.

Hanie was terrible. He's now attempted 70 passes in his career and thrown 6 picks. He's careless, and it's not like these are flukey picks, they have been horrible passes. A mediocre QB performance in that game and the Bears win by a touchdown.

Eh. I see the INTs differently. No excuse to throw that one on the sidelines. That was definitely a horrible decision. But the INT in the deep middle wasn't a bad decision, it was a bad throw. He had a window to hit Forte and overthrew it. But a play was there. Granted, you could argue it was a poor decision because he's Caleb Hanie and probably doesn't have the ability to complete that pass anyway. The screen wasn't that bad of a call. Granted it was 1st and goal vs. a team that couldn't stop Barber from running them over, but the issue wasn't the call but the execution. Hanie either didn't see the LB or thought the pulling linemen would block him.

As for the defense, I think they are getting off pretty easy due to Hanie's picks and clock management. I think watching that game most people saw the Raiders on short fields most of the game. But the Bears only gave up 6 points on short fields, 3 of which came after the long INT return. They forced 3 punts on drives that the Raiders started outside their own 40. The Raiders scored 4 times on drives of 50 yards or more, for a total of 16 points. Defense gave up several plays over 20 yards. Basically they just got lucky that the Raiders were inept inside the 30 yard line. Bend/don't break is crap when you are facing a mediocre offense and know your offense isn't capable of putting up 30. Holding a team to a FG is not good defense, when you do it 6 times.

But that's pretty much all this defense is capable of. They can't shut down teams completely, especially if their QB can throw at all.

Martz called for 40 passes and 23 rushes. Hanie was off on a few throws, but Cutler has thrown his share of bad passes as well. Also, in this offense, when we get a big run from Forte early and Martz doesn't sell out, we win. Yesterdays game almost directly mirrored earlier games from this season, it was simply amplified by the fact we had Hanie and not Cutler.

If Hanie can corral his risk-taking and make better decisions, he'll be fine. I really expected him to go out and gun sling yesterday as it seemed he was primed for that. And actually, he did better then I expected. Hopefully, yesterday taught him a few things, namely, clam the [expletive] down and process your progressions. But Martz has to do a better job with play calling. I realize he doesn't want to dumb down anything because he doesn't want to hurt anyone's feelings, but he has to also realize that there are correct play calls and [expletive] ones, regardless of anyone's feelings.

Agreed. But they needed to yesterday and didn't. They got only 1 TO which came deep in their end of the field. But the D is getting off without criticism for the most part due to the offense's issues.

If the Bears beat the Chiefs and Seahawks at home and the Vikings on the road, they should make the playoffs. The Denver game is a tossup, but very winnable also.

If they can't win those games even without Jay, then they just aren't a good team or coaching staff. No excuses.

I don't think they deserve much criticism for that game. They gave up 2 long scoring drives in the second half. But remember how that game started. The offense had three consecutive drives that lasted under 2 minutes and Oakland got the ball already in field goal range after the third. Two consecutive Oakland drives started on interceptions that left Oakland in great field position early. The Bears defense was playing a "we must score" style and all Oakland had to do was not get careless. Their biggest plays were little pop passes over the middle, which this defense is inherently susceptible to. Everything went against them because the offense, namely Hanie, did such a horrible job. Bend but don't break is what they do, you can't blame them for just doing what they do.

Any halfway decent QB play and the Bears win that game easily. I can't blame the defense for not scoring, which is about all they could do.

I was starting to think I was the only one with this opinion and thus, crazy. I'm glad that at the very least, I have one other crazy person to be crazy with.

It really was an incredibly stupid call to make at that point of the game and spot of the field. You really are crazy for pretending otherwise.
