"Pretty strong," Sveum said. "He's pretty impressive on video. I don't know if he was as impressive as that kid the other day."

Sveum was referring to Carlos Correa, the Puerto Rican shortstop the Cubs who may be available with their No. 6 pick in Monday's draft.

If we dont get Soler it's going to be a disaster considering we wasted money on Conception for this package deal

I think ours has been in for months, and will be 40-50% higher than anyone else's. The Concepcion model.

I hope so.

I've seen some crazy years/$$ being thrown around on various boards/blogs. Anyone think it'll be more than something like 5/35??

What's crazy years and money? I could see 5/35, Cespedes got 4/36 (granted Cespedes was more polished/seasonsed/had a better pedigree at the time of signing). I could maybe see as high as 6-7 for 40 being possible. Is he currently 18 or 19?

No question mark needed.

"Crazy" was probably the wrong way for me to put it. Hell, it's not my $$, so I don't really care, especially since the new CBA limits spending...

The bidding on Soler isn't affected by the new CBA, still falls under the old one. So teams can offer whatever without being penalized. I wasn't questioning the use of the word crazy you used, just wanted to know what those crazy years/money figures actually are you have seen other places. I haven't seen or been looking for what people are saying he might get.

The nice part about this is we know what date he'll sign before.

Yeah, I don't even know why I mentioned the CBA. I know there's no cap as long as he's signed by July 2 (right??). Trying to find it again, but I know I saw on some blog, someone arguing Hoystein just "get it over with" & offer 8/64....

"Crazy" money in this case should be $20 to $30 million. I'd be stunned if any other team was offering more.

Levine sounded pretty confident in his chat yesterday that we'd be the high bidder. Doubt that's worth a Schrute Buck, but still.

It depends how many years we're talking. On one hand, there are the big money teams like the Yankees, Red Sox, and Phillies with aging rosters and diminishing farm systems and rarely a top 10 draft pick. On the other, there are the smaller market teams looking to rebuild. The might not stand a shot at competing for the big money free agents, but if we're talking 20-30 mil over 5-7 years, it's just 4-6 mil/year, which is not going to hurt even them. I'm all for doing what it takes to get him, but there's little doubt in my mind that other interested teams have the same mind set.
