This is why you don't pass on the opportunity to sign a Prince Fielder just because there may be someone better down the line.

He's about to sign an 8 year, $160 million extension with the Dodgers per Buster Olney

Have I missed something? Who is signing off on that contract? Selig?

It is odd, seeing as how it was said that they wouldn't be able to sign any FA until the sale process was complete. Obviously Kemp isn't a FA, but you'd think the no-FA thing was meant to prevent McCourt from committing resources that won't be his.

Then again, MLB may think that locking up the team's best player asset will make the team more attractive to bidders. A lot of mixed messages being sent, though.

this times a million

consider the opportunity to sign an elite talent a break, don't turn away and wait for a better one.

That's what I'm thinking. Selig probably thinks it's good for baseball for the Dodgers to be one of the 5 most relevant teams, so he let them extend their likely mvp

i read an article a few weeks ago about how he wanted to play in LA forever and how much he loves it there, so i don't think we would have had a chance anyways.
