it's funny to read people talking about how he's seen in State College when they've never lived in State College.

by most accounts, the folks in SC are outraged at all of this

Yeah, but how much of that rage is bypassing Paterno on it's way Schultz, Spanier and Curley? Quite a bit, I'd guess.

Don't forget the receivers coach/ eyewitness, who will apparently be on the sidelines Saturday.

Sure, it'd be easier to place all the blame on the faceless suits rather than to assign appropriate amounts to the local heroes.

The reports from people who grew up there support the JoePa is god viewpoint.

Did you grow up there?

I know plenty of PSU alums, a couple of whom spent time there after school. I have a pretty good understanding of how Paterno is treated there. He's untouchable. There is a decent amount of people who are not blind sycophants that actually do place responsibility on Paterno, but it doesn't really matter because of how he has been allowed to overpower his theoretical bosses. If he just bullies his way out of responsibility for these acts that occured on his watch, it will be a disgrace.

I lived there from 1986-1992, and then 2005-2008

My parents lived there from 1986-2011

so that's why most people wanted him gone 10 years ago? because they're blind sycophants?

I said there are a decent amount of people who aren't blind sychophants. Allowing him to bully his way into staying after this acts occured on his watch within his facilities would only happen because of the blind sychophants that allowed him to become god there.

he's not god there. maybe among the idiot 18 year olds he is, but not the actual adults

no, just tell him to step down for allowing kids to be raped for almost 20 years during his watch.

so why hasn't he been run out of town?

you want them to get their lynchin' ropes and rassle up a posse?

If enough people wanted him gone for long enough, he'd be gone. A posse isn't necessary.

It's been less than a week. He won't last

This has to keep him out of the running for things like the College Football Hall of Fame? Right? One can only hope.

For all the people that feel sorry for Joe Pa's incredible run as head coach ending in a way that poisons his entire legacy, he had a choice. This is on him.

I don't think anyone is arguing against that

He's already in it.

Did not know that. I'm assuming they will have to update his 'bust' when he retires to reflect his career wins. I guess they can also find room to note the final number of children raped under his watch, if we ever get a final tally on that.

I think you're going to see public sentiment (especially in PA) turn against Paterno as the days go by. I saw it here in Columbus with the Pryor/Tressell stuff. At first, it was pointing fingers away from the university and disbelief (including blind support for OSU), but as the facts came out and time wore on, the sentiment here turned from denial to anger to acceptance, and now most people are glad Pryor and sweater vest are gone

What will the crowd reaction be for football team and coaching staff on Saturday in Happy Valley? That would be awkward to be in attendance.

There not evenly remotely close situations.

I can understand the mindset from people associated with the University could be relatively similar (aka Alum, fans, faculty, current student). A very vile and bad thing happened to the school you are associated with and the first reaction is the deflect it as they think it may make them look bad (as what happened with Ohio State and I'm not comparing the two but I am saying it's possible that minds don't differentiate immediately two different negative acts). Eventually people learn that it was certain people who committed the act and it doesn't really reflect them at all and the understand how to criticize the institution.

What went on at Ohio State has been going on for years in college sports. I mean it really pales in comparison to Ped State.
