I'm just thinking of available options. If we don't get Cespedes, what are the corner outfield options over the next few years?

Either, Hamilton, Quentin, Ichiro, Delmon Young, Nick Swisher, Hunter Pence, Shane Victorino for starters...

Jae Hoon Ha might be ready by 2013. I'd like to see more power/patience from him, but his contact skills and defense should make him a pretty decent player regardless.

I'd take Pence, Victorino, or Swisher. Hamiltion as well, but he's also likely to be extended. Delmon Young will have a make or break this season. Ichiros pushing 40 and last year he was basically Juan Pierre. Quentin's defense isn't much better than Soriano's. The main problem is that elite bats seem to be becoming more and more rare. While I wouldn't have paid what the Tigers and Angels did for Fielder and Pujols, it might have been the last time elite hitters like that hit free agency for a while.

Miami apparently made an offer, per Rotoworld:

A source close to negotiations tells Eric Reynoso of Café Fuerte that the Marlins submitted an offer to Yoenis Cespedes worth roughly $40 million over six years.

"Everything has been very positive,'' said the source. ''Cespedes returned with a proposal of around $40 million." Cespedes traveled to Miami on Tuesday after being granted a vistors visa and met with the Marlins front office on Wednesday. According to the source, Cespedes ''still doesn't have any immediate plans to meet with other teams.'' In addition to the Marlins, the Cubs, White Sox, Orioles and Tigers are believed to have shown the most interest in the 26-year-old outfielder.

Average fWAR over the last 5 years:

Pujols - 7.8

Fielder - 4.4

Hamilton - 4.2

Victorino - 4.2

Ichiro - 4.1

Upton - 4.0

Pence - 3.9

Swisher - 3.2

Soriano - 3.1

Ethier - 2.7

Quentin - 1.4

Young - 0.1

Ethier's not the answer. His average season is about as good as you'd get from giving Sam Fuld a full time job. (1.9 fWAR last year in 105 games.)

That should not be difficult to top whatsoever. Obviously they're making the first move, but I kind of expected their offer to be much more aggressive than that considering the things they've said publicly in the past about him.

Also this update from MLBTR:

3:00pm: Clark Spencer of the Miami Herald (via Twitter) hears that the Marlins offered Cespedes less than $40MM.

Same thing they did with Pujols. Talked a big game and then put in a very tepid offer.

Well unless there's other intense competition, I'd be willing to bet Theo could top that if he wants it. As Brett noted, it seems like the Marlins are banking on him taking a hometown discount. Couple that with Ozzie's weird interview comments and I'm feeling a bit optimistic.

I've officially used the foes list on NSBB for the first time ever.

EDIT - Actually, there was somebody named BearClaw on it already. I have no idea who that is.

Hearing that the #marlins have offered OF Yoenis Cespedes LESS than the $40 million figure that has been reported.

I'd like to land somebody this off season. Hell, we purged enough get the [expletive] done.

Because adding someone just for the sake of adding someone is the blueprint to building a successful team.

And neither is adding nobody.

So basically we are getting nobody this off season? [expletive]. Makes me miss the days of Hendry.

You are either really, really bad at reading, or really, really bad at trying to stir people up.

Seriously though, the more I read about how the Marlins apparently decided to hype themselves up and lowball the guy, the more encouraged I get. I wish OFAC would hurry the heck up.

No, I'm not the one with a change in behavior to consider here.

Yeah you are. I think I speak for all of us that this off season has been crap. Anyone disagree?
