Well, yeah; he doesn't keep those things like he keeps his fish. D'uh.

Those poor fish in those death traps.

Ben Badler seems to think Cespedes still needs an OFAC unblocking license. I'm not quite sure what that is.

"I have never gone through this process before," Adam Katz, Cespedes’ agent, told MLB Network Radio. "It is onerous and unpredictable. You just sort of have to breathe into it and not have too many expectations."

Kind of an odd thing for an agent to say, considering you would think he wants to represent more foreign players.

Since this is the most active thread right now and this doesn't deserve a thread of its own (and he'll probably talk about Cespedes to some extent) seems as good a place to post this as any in case anyone is interested...

MEANWHILE, IN CUBA...

Ben Badler @BenBadler

Alfredo Despaigne went deep again today. That's 20 home runs in 46 games. Incredible.

Holy [expletive]. Can Seal Team Six go extract him or something?

Like I need another reason to hate that.

Boooooo. Marlins are now apparently considered the favorites. Per rotoworld:

Juan C. Rodriguez of the South Florida Sun-Sentinel was told by an American League source that the Marlins are likely to sign Cuban outfielder Yoenis Cespedes.

The Marlins haven't been shy about their interest thus far, so it wouldn't come as a surprise to anyone. Cespedes traveled to Miami on Tuesday and is expected to meet with higher-ups from the Marlins on Wednesday. The Tigers, Cubs, White Sox and Orioles are among the other clubs reported to have the most interest. While Cespedes is free to negotiate with MLB teams, he can't officially sign a contract until he is unlocked by the Office of Foreign Assets Control (OFAC).

As much as I am just craving new talent on the Cubs, let the Marlins blow the doors off this kid. They are going to go balls out for the contract. The only way I see the Cubs winning this thing is if there is some personal preference in play. I don't know their payroll situation, but they lost arbitration with Anibal. Maybe that couple million will be a difference maker? That is about as much optimism as I can muster at the moment.

I want both, but as long as we get one or the other, it's a hell of an offseason in my book, for the plan they've laid out.

They've started to implement the plan but I'd have a hard time saying what they've done has been a hell of an offseason. Just selling off all your guys isn't that amazing of a series of moves.

Well certainly that depends on what you get for them.

Considering the Marlins were hoping to add a Pujols contract to their payroll this offseason, I'm not so sure a couple million will deter them

Even if they were, there's a big difference between going all in on the best player in baseball and using a big chunk of that money on a 26 year old prospect. I'd be Ok with giving him 6/60, or maybe even 8/80, although that's a stretch, considering that if he turns out to be a bust at 27 I wouldn't want to be paying him 10 mil when he's 34. If the Marlins decide to get ridiculous on him, more power to them.

Man, the Cubs are totally going to win that not spending money trophy.

No [expletive]. Out spent by the [expletive] Marlins. WTF! I hate acting like a small market team.

I figured the 'hey guys look, we tried' mantra would have fit in better with the previous regime

No, because they spent money. I mean if you aren't going to get Fielder or Pujols at least use the money for the future.

I'm confused, some guy writing for a south Florida paper says the Marlins are the favorites for Cespedes and we're panicking? Wasn't there about six different teams that were close to signing Pujols and Fielder?

Why should I care what that guy writes prior to most of the teams interested have had a chance to talk "officially"?
