I don't really care all that much. I would be fine with Terry Francona just because he's the devil you know.

Still wonder about DeMarlo Hale. Theo obviously likes him enough - he interviewed him for the job that eventually went to Francona.

that said, between Hale and Sveum, my hunch is that Sveum would be favored. No real reason why - just seemed like he was always viewed a notch ahead of Hale.

That said, with many guys that are competing for the same jobs, we may not get our choice, as the Red Sox may get their pick ahead of us.

Madden, or Maddon, ^^I guess Joe Madden? I have no idea who he is, but from what I have read from posts here, he is still under contract but people seem to regard him very highly. He'd be like a dream catch. So since we seem to be getting all our prime targets, why not shoot for the moon?

Top 5 names to me:

Willie Randolph

Mike Maddux

Dave Martinez

Sandy Alomar Jr.

Bobby Valentine (many lawls from this guy I think; Might be too liberal or sumptin)

Honestly, it doesn't really matter. Whoever works best with the FO...I think Randolph could be great here, and would handle the bs of handling a big market media...Plus he's got a great pedigree as a coach, even with the Mets debacle.

Didn't Dusty Baker always talk about Cliff Floyd becoming a manager one day, even letting him manage a couple meaningless games at the end of seasons?

I wonder what he's up to.

I was going to say something about Jody Davis having paid his dues as a minor league manager for the Cubs, but I'll save that for the "other" thread. :D

Being fat and injured somewhere.

Dave Martinez is my 1st choice with Valentine and Francona behind him. Scrum is intriguing as he seems to follow the Epstein/Hoyer mind set.

Does Bobby V even have aspirations to leave his cushy TV job for the stress of managing again?

It sounded like all he wanted to do was manage again the way he used his cushy TV job.

Valentine seems pretty outspoken. I'd rather have a first-time manager who will buy into Hoyer and Epstein's philosophy and do what he's told. Preferably someone from a sucessful organization.

Just say no to zombie manager. I don't think I'd be able to stand that. For the amount of crap the manager will probably take as a Cub, there should remain some dignity in the job. Yes, he should be able to work with the FO. On the other hand it's pretty stupid to have the field manager in such an inflexible position on the field. If Theo, Hoyer, and gang are the geniuses they're said to be then they know better than that.

Don't know much about Sveum.

My top 3 are Martinez and my love for Lovullo and Walbeck (although he continues to get fired despite winning from AA squads) still continue.

I wonder if hiring Maddux would influence Wilson's decision for next season.

Wonder how tight he is with the union?

With Sabathia not involved with the free market and Wilson being the top prize, how much will something like that impact the highest bidder award?
