If they do it right is key.

They could just be doing an intro to SABR show, and I guess that would be better than what we have, but idk how excited I'd be about hearing MLB Network explain to the casual fan stuff I already understand.

Has potential to be awesome if they do it right.

i don't trust them. i am having visions of former players discussing the importance of productive outs and productive out percentage and other pseudo-analytical terms like BA w/risp, etc.

Brian Kenny is [expletive] awesome. I'm optimistic.

This. There have been a couple times I thought he was going to strangle Harold Reynolds, like when Harold went Dusty on him and said OBP was overrated because too many guys getting on base clogged them up.

You can tell the guy wants to go all analytic, but can't without sending all the meatheads around him into a lather. That said, I'm sure there are at least a couple of former players smart enough to fit the bill for that kind of show.

even better would be if they had a rebuttal show immediately after featuring the likes of joe morgan, murray chass and bill plaschke.

I bet the phrase lumpy critic would be used more than once.

It'd be cool if they brought someone like Brian Bannister onto the show. I know he was into sabermetrics, and tried to incorporate them into his pitching.

I thought immediately of Doug Glanville.

not a bad show. didn't need any insight from mitch williams, larry bowa, or peter gammons. but i liked the concept, and it could be awesome during the regular season.
Posted
neither of them sounded stupid, actually. though for mitch williams' segment, they weren't really talking about stats, they were talking about changes in playoff format.

mitch williams owned a bar like 50 yards from where i used to swim growing up. sometimes i went in there for water ice (italian ice). him being sabermetrically-inclined would be perhaps the greatest shock i've ever experienced.

i don't think he'll be a regular. it looks like what they're doing is at the end of the show, they have an 'ombudsman' segment where i guess someone with a more traditional-based baseball mind gets to counter whatever was brought up during the show.

yesterday was sean casey.

then what is the point of the show? Their entire programming schedule is built around "traditional ways of thinking", why do they need to throw somebody in there to poo-poo?

So old men don't throw their cane through their TVs

Is that a euphemism for what the GA told Paterno?

hopefully it will be phased out.

the 2 times so far they haven't really countered anything stats heavy. mitch williams talked about a new playoff format, and sean casey talked about giving out $100 million contracts.

not necessarily on topic, but i found it funny and seems to fit here. this came from tonights hot stove live

mitch williams: i dont believe in anything i cant spell, so sabermetrics i dont give any credence to.
