Oh my God Joe Cowley is such a [expletive] meathead hack

Not that I disagree, but what inspires you to say that now? Him making fun of Kaplan and Levine for having egg on their faces?

I'm sure they weren't making it up. The Cubs probably thought they had a deal done and the Red Sox went "robble robble give us Jackson"

Maybe, maybe not.

Maybe they're right and it is done pending medicals.

Who the [expletive] knows.

He wants players who play hard, he was disappointed to go to Wrigley and hear boos lately, Boston didn't hire the best guy they went with some local unknown so maybe the Cubs should too, trying to buy the best has failed for the Cubs before.

It was just some dude... a "speech writer from Washington DC"

Apparently worked for USA Today or somethign

This stupidity should give you the gist...

Don’t get me wrong, Epstein was a great GM for the Red Sox and if I were rooting for him to be the first GM in the Hall of Fame, I’d be psyched right now. If he can do for Chicago what he did for Boston, it will be great for him personally. A major part of the headline will be: “Epstein leads Red Sox and Cubs to World Series victories.” But after everything Cubs fans have been through, that’s not good enough for me.

And what about if the Cubs don’t win it all? When I was covering the inaugural season of the Washington Nationals in 2005, I ran into Mark Grace and asked him what was so special about playing for the Cubs.

“I played on some bad teams,” Grace said. “But if you gave the fans an honest effort and busted your butt, they loved you win or lose. And it’s not that way everywhere.”

Sadly, it’s not that way in Chicago anymore either.

That’s when I heard it. I’ve been to literally hundreds of games at Wrigley Field, but never heard this sound before.

“What is that?” I asked my friend.

“Boos,” he answered.

And that’s the first time I realized the Cubs were changing. Wrigley Field used to be a place to be part of something unique. There was honor to being a Cubs fan. We might not have been rewarded by World Series victories, but what we got was more valuable. We got optimism. And perseverance. We believed that even though the Cubs didn’t win this year, maybe they would next year. And that was enough to keep us going.

Basically he's a meatball longing for the days of the "lovable losers" identity and the similar tolerance/apathy from the fans. Epstein apparently represents an "uglier" aspect of the team and the fans that's cropped up in the last decade (ie - spending too much, wanting the team to be good and being pissed when they're not). Oh, and it should be a local guy instead.

what? not only had he never heard boos at wrigley before, but he'd never heard boos ANYWHERE before? and couldn't pick them out? come on.

I saw lines of this white powder side by side on a mirror and I was like, what is that strange stuff?

Moises Alou is what started it. He was one of those nasty big expensive signings in an attempt to win.

Todd Hundley started it. He was a malcontent big money outsider brought in when the team tried to take the next step for contention "within the division".

He's already made millions. If he wanted more family time, he could step back whenever he wants.

Why is this thread required to have crazy on every page?

There's a difference between doing it just because he wants to and doing it because it's somewhat forced on him by failed negotiations. I'm sure he wants to take on the Cubs job, but if he has to wait a year and doesn't want to put up with another year of Hendry and Lucchino, that's when that possibility could come into play.

My hope is that they get Hoyer and McCleod signed as soon as possible so they can get on with the offseason and when Theo joins, he joins.

He doesn't have to sit out a year. If the Sox don't let him out of his contract, he's their GM. They can't force him to stay at home. It makes no sense. 0. None.

Yes, that is an option, but they could be at the point where they feel that it is a conflict of interest, or simply don't want to work together any longer. I know, if that were the case the sensible thing to do would be to just let him come to the Cubs and take what they're given, but these guys don't sound quite rational and seem like cut off their nose to spite their face guys.

what kind of freak doesn't want a winning atmosphere?

Don't equate these forthcoming changes as a guarantee for a Title.

Last time I checked, baseball is still baseball, and the baseball gods make the decisions, meaning top players will make outs, prospects will make outs, non-prospects will make outs, and the real difference is the amount one pays for these outs.

The difference between winning and losing is skinny, especially in these days of drug testing. Go back and look at hitting and pitching stats in the pre-expansion era when coffee, caffeine, and speed were the drugs of choice, plus hot dogs and beer, and you will see what the standard was.

This change is no sure thing, but even if it was, what does it really bring you?

Not a paid off mortgage or a vacation home in the Keys, just worthless braggin rights????

Go be productive for your family, they are the only ones who care about YOU!!

Oddly, today seems like the slowest news day since the agreement in the past week or so it seems. Usually there's tweets, articles and tons of stuff pumping out every day and so far it's unusually quiet.I know it's only noon, but still.

Chances of Theo working for the Cubs: 75%

Chances of Theo working for the Red Sox: 12%

This is all a PR stunt to keep the meatheads and media at bay. Henry wants to come away looking like he fought until the end.

Um, what's the other 13%?

Theo dies of a brain aneurysm. It seems high, but actuarial science is still in its infancy, and you have to account for the genetic background of his father, Peter Gammons.

There is a reason it is Archer's biggest fear.
