Chances of Theo working for the Cubs: 75%

Chances of Theo working for the Red Sox: 12%

This is all a PR stunt to keep the meatheads and media at bay. Henry wants to come away looking like he fought until the end.

Um, what's the other 13%?

Works for another team all together or doesn't work at all.

I think Ricketts was following the BRob and Peavy debacles, and decided its fun to be on this side of the equation so is just toying with us for laughs.

Just completely and wildly reading between the lines, I think Crane Kenney was both Levine and Kaplan's source yesterday and they got burned.

The way the media is about to turn on him, Kenney will be lucky to survive the year. And I'm not sure if I mean that literally or figuratively.

Honestly, if he was the source, he should get burned for throwing monkey wrenches.

Seems like the hits just keep in coming to the Red Sox:

http://www.bostonherald.com/sports/baseball/red_sox/view/2011_1021most_loved_teammate_yup_lackey/

• If there’s a word to describe what it’s been like to watch former Sox manager Terry Francona get dragged over the coals recently, it’s “sad.”

The latest depressing news came yesterday, when the Worcester Telegram reported that Francona has pulled out of a golf tournament in his honor that would have benefited cancer research because of the “current hostile media environment.”

Francona was supposed to play on Monday at the International in Bolton as part of, “Thank you Terry Francona Day.” The club wanted to recognize the manager’s service and two World Series titles during his eight years in Boston.

One hundred and sixty golfers had paid $225 each to enter the event, with proceeds going to cancer research.

However, Francona informed the club on Tuesday night that he wouldn’t be able to attend because of the firestorm surrounding the team.

It’s bad enough that Francona has had his formerly good name dragged through the mud since the Sox collapsed in September. Now he can’t even play in a charity golf tournament to honor his contributions to baseball in Boston?

We’ve said it once, we’ll say it again: The whole thing is just sad.

Ouch!

He's already made millions. If he wanted more family time, he could step back whenever he wants.

Why is this thread required to have crazy on every page?

There's a difference between doing it just because he wants to and doing it because it's somewhat forced on him by failed negotiations. I'm sure he wants to take on the Cubs job, but if he has to wait a year and doesn't want to put up with another year of Hendry and Lucchino, that's when that possibility could come into play.

My hope is that they get Hoyer and McCleod signed as soon as possible so they can get on with the offseason and when Theo joins, he joins.

But the way the Red Sox treat their employees, including blocking Epstein's promotion, will in no way effect their ability to attract employees in the future :)

john henry: "i love terry francona, there's been no more loyal soldier or competent manager in the league than tito. he's been such a great field general that it almost makes up for the fact that he's a pill-popping freak that can't even keep a woman satisfied, if you know what i mean. we'll miss him."

This isnt the first time that Boston's media fucked things up for them, and it won't be the last. That is what makes Boston's run of success in the last 10 years so astounding. How did they manage to keep the dogs at bay so that the Pats could have 3 titles, the Red Sox 2 and the Celtics and Bruins each one without [expletive] up at least a couple of those?

The Boston media is like Plaxico Burress with a machine gun.

I think you are stalking me. There's nothing remotely crazy about it. It's not likely to happen though.

He doesn't have to sit out a year. If the Sox don't let him out of his contract, he's their GM. They can't force him to stay at home. It makes no sense. 0. None.

Twitter checkin!

Joe Cowley takes a few minutes away from bashing Kenny Williams to snark on Kap & Levine:

cst_Cowley cst_Cowley

Still waiting for the Theo presser here at Wrigley. I mean it was in the Trib and ESPN.Brucie so it has to happen. #DeweyDefeatsTruman

cst_Cowley

Still here at Wrigley ... waiting. Oh wait, there's Kap hugging Crane ... deal must be done.

Ken Tremendous weighs in on that ridiculously hideous entry in the Sun-Times from a supposed Cubs fan bitching about how the hiring of Theo means the Cubs have their priorities out of whack because they want to spend money to win ... or something ...

Holy cow. This is monkey-on-keyboard level. RT (@EliGieryna) Least-coherent sports argument of the 21st century: bit.ly/oBn0ef

Stalking you? I think you're paranoid.

It's fantastic that you accidentally spelled 'nd' in your post too.

19-1

New England hasn't won a Super Bowl in 7 years. They've been knocked out the playoffs at home in the 1st round two years in a row.

Oh my God Joe Cowley is such a [expletive] meathead hack

Not that I disagree, but what inspires you to say that now? Him making fun of Kaplan and Levine for having egg on their faces?

i love kaplan...

thekapman David Kaplan

Thanks for the confirmation. RT @GordonEdes: It's done, according to source: Hoyer to join Theo as GM of Cubs, Byrnes new GM in SD

JUST TO BE CLEAR...thekapman said this first. this other guy is just confirming. WANTED EVERYBODY TO MAKE SURE THEY GOT THAT.

I'm sure they weren't making it up. The Cubs probably thought they had a deal done and the Red Sox went "robble robble give us Jackson"
