I've been sort of out of the loop the last few days with work and travel, but Theo coming in as the president, hiring a GM of his choice and then revamping the whole [expletive] system has to be the most exciting thing I've ever heard in my life.

It'd be even sweeter if Epstein during the conference pulls a Vince McMahon and goes " Mike Quade, YOUR FIRED!"

You mean Donald Trump.

You mean Donald Trump.

Trump got it from Vince. And if he's going to go all Vince McMahon on Quade, I hope like hell he makes him join the Kiss My Ass Club before he fires him.

Think its too soon to ask to interview Cherington?

I like this, just keep going back to Boston and ask for permission to interview everyone in their front office. Ask Lucchino permission to interview himself for a job as Tommy's [expletive] mopper.

McNutt will sting, but if we can get continued progress from Rhee, Struck, and or course a comeback from Whitenack, it will sting a lot less. I'm not saying we should have to give him up, but I guess if that what it takes for a guy who can architect us into the kind of team a big market, big money team should be, so be it. Not happy about it though, but whatever. It's not like he's Strasburg.

Where do I sign up for that club?

I didn't know you could "get" a common phrase like that from a specific blowhard.

The Red Sox initially asked for Cubs starting pitcher Matt Garza, and at one point proposed the Cubs take pitcher John Lackey's contract as part of the compensation, according to a major league source. Lackey has three seasons remaining on a five-year, $82.5 million contract. He was 12-12 with a 6.41 ERA in 28 starts for the Red Sox in 2011.

But the expected agreement will include Cubs minor leaguers, although not top prospects Brett Jackson, Trey McNutt and Matt Szczur, the source said. Cash will not be part of the compensation.

Dave Kaplan was just on WEEi: the deal is for multiple prospects, and he thinks McNutt is included. Wrigley press conference either tomorrow or Tuesday.

Two other sources confirmed ESPNChicago.com's report that San Diego Padres general manager Jed Hoyer will be named Cubs GM a few days after Epstein's news conference. But Padres owner Jeff Moorad emailed ESPNBoston.com's Gordon Edes late Wednesday night that the Cubs had not asked for official permission to interview Hoyer.

Hmmm.So is Theo just going behind the scenes and talking to him or what's going on?

in 2 days gammons will say something about how the cubs are going to be awesome with theo and then everyone will love him again

My personal favorite Gammons moment was when he came on BBTN at the trade deadline in 2004 and categorically said Nomar was not going to be traded, less than an hour before it was announced that he was.

my favorite was when he went on espnnews and said that nomar was going nowhere 5 min after the deadline, just as the cubs/red sox trade news came across the bottom of the screen

As I said earlier, nothing matches him nearly in tears because Nick Swisher struck out Gabe Kapler. IN 10 YEARS NOBODY WILL KNOW WHO NICK SWISHER IS AND EVERYONE WILL STILL LOVE GABE!!!

The Trib just posted a Rogers blurb saying the sides are no closer to an agreement and Commish might have to step in. Someone(s) is going to look pretty stupid tomorrow.

Pretty sure Kaplan and Rogers look stupid every morning.

There've been at least 2-3 links posted explaining that situation.

I know this thread monster is difficult to dig through, but somewhere along the way after that was posted, they say McNutt may well be a part of it.

No interview needed. Moorad wants his boy Byrnes to be the GM anyway. Epstein as President has the power to hire whoever he wants as GM and he knows Jed like a brother. I imagine it goes down pretty close to how they say. Jed comes over a few days after the Friday Presser. I am a little surprised they don't want a little cash though.

Who is they?

Kaplan is reporting he "thinks" McNutt is a part of it.

Levine is reporting he's not.

If total payroll is 150, my guess is it winds up 130 and 20 towards player development.

And I'm thinking that total number moves upwards if/when they get some improved revenues through ticket sales and the renovations.

I read a blurb somewhere about a "Wrigleyville West" at the Spring Training site. If the Cubs build condos and retail shops and rent the space the revenue stream could be huge.
