9:22 Kaplan tweets the compensation will be: " something fairly signifigant".

I have to think Vitters or McNutt (or both are going to go).

lol

I've been sort of out of the loop the last few days with work and travel, but Theo coming in as the president, hiring a GM of his choice and then revamping the whole [expletive] system has to be the most exciting thing I've ever heard in my life.

I feel the same way, and then a little sad because every other team in baseball has had a real front office for years.

EVERY?

Dodgers?

Hopefully it's just Vitters. Fools gold.

Actually he's not even that highly regarded so it's hard to classify that as gold.

I should have put almost, in retrospect.

Doubt it. Probably Vitters and a lesser prospect. And letting Vitters go isn't that big of a deal.

Kaplan may be a douche and have stupid opinions, but his sources have broken stories before.

"something fairly significant" could mean almost anything. Therefore it's a meaningless statement.

No matter who it turns out to be, unless it's 2 prospects from the butt-end of our system people would be able to look back and say Kaplan was right.

So it's really just reading tea leaves.

Not sure why so many have given up on Josh. Still a lot of upside. That said, to get Theo, adios.

I don't think "given up" is the right word. He just has to improve his defense, plate discipline and power to become a viable major league starter. He's not exactly close. But the reward if he puts it together is great.

Source: Resolution on Theo Epstein talks ‘possible’ by Friday :clapping:

According to a source familiar with the protracted Theo Epstein compensation talks, a resolution is “possible” by Friday, an off-day in the World Series. And if commissioner Bud Selig allows, Epstein’s move to run the Chicago Cubs’ baseball operations finally may become official.

At that time, the Red Sox will announce Ben Cherington as their new general manager.

During the negotiations, the Red Sox have put most other matters on hold, although a team source said the club has been doing “due diligence” in its search for a new manager. Once Epstein’s situation is resolved, it is expected the Red Sox will take steps to start the process of lining up interviews with managerial candidates.

Ken Rosenthal: 10:51PM

Red Sox general manager Theo Epstein will be headed to the Cubs any day now, but not necessarily as general manager.

Padres general manager Jed Hoyer, who is under contract through 2013 with a club option for ’14, is one of Epstein’s targets

Everyone tweeting and getting articles up now. This is going to go down very soon! Finally!!!!

Selig has been hopeful Red Sox President Larry Lucchino and a Cubs’ negotiating team headed by Chairman Tom Ricketts and interim general manager Randy Bush can reach agreement. But the sides remain at an impasse, with Lucchino reportedly not dropping his demand for top prospects as compensation for the man who will head the Cubs’ baseball operations.

“Larry needs somebody to tell him it’s OK to make a deal,” said a baseball executive closely following the negotiations. “He is in a tough position. He can see the Cubs winning the World Series in a few years and doesn’t want to be Harry Frazee, who sold Babe Ruth to the Yankees.”
